I need help with Explorer II

I'm not seeing deep targets. I'm using the deep mode & sensitivity at 20. Can anyone recommend any other settings? I haven't found any deep targets yet. It is very sensitive to shallow targets. Any input would be appreciated.

If you are new to the Explorer I would suggest going to Iron mask and open it up to 10 to start with. Hunt this way for a few days and you should have some deep targets. If you are not new to the Explorer You need to find someone to hunt with that has one and knows it well.

Depending where you live targets may not be that deep. I learned this after a few years. I too have never found a coin in undisturbed soil deeper that about 6 or 7 inches. I thought the old ones were deeper, BUT I have dug a few 1700's King George coppers, mid 1800 coins at depths of 5 to 6 inches. The soil here is clay and shale so that's probably as far as they go. Remember to move slow and also the deeper the target the less likely the numbers will be accurate if you use digital display. My feeling is if it shows semi deep on the scale I will dig it. I would rather dig and find a bottlecap than to not dig and miss a cool item. Believe me I have been surprised at times at what came out and said "Man, I almost passed on digging that signal".

My shallowest large copper was an inch deep sitting on a rock. I've also dug them at 14"
These were all deep.

I have had my ExII for almost a year now and I finally know it really well. I have found mercs at the beach down over 18" and GeorgeI, and II's on land at 6-8". I turn off Iron Mask, set sens @ 24, and go mainly on tone. Good targets get faint at greater depths, and will display as pennies (07-24)or jump around from good (00-2 to bad (06-27)only when they are really deep. ...you need to experiment in really clean soil and bury targets at different depths in your yard to get the hang of it. You will hear one solid tone on each pass in BOTH directions. You should also bury junk such as crushed cans at 10 inches or so... they sound like dimes when they are down, but you will quickly learn that they are too big to be anything good. Lastly, learn that (00-31) tone it is usually tin. It is the highest pitch of them all.........Good luck and stay with it, I switched from a Whites and was very frustrated my first few days out...I can assure you it is the best machine on the market

Hey Tone,
Here are a couple suggestions, use iron mask at 10 to 13, bump up your gain to 7 or 8, bump up your sensitivity up to around 25 or more (a little chatter once in a while is ok but not too much).

If there are deep targets where you are looking you may be passing them by. Pay attention to each little peep of the machine. A deep item will sound very small and quiet. If the signal is very small and quiet, and it repeats both ways, turn 90

Just be patient and give it time. It will come to you. Just remember one thing I was told a long time ago," There has to be deep targets there to find deep targets". Good luck, don't worry...you have the best.
