I need tips

I've been asked by a gentleman to help find his dad's 14k Law Enforcement ring with a 1 carat diamond . They seem to think he lost it in their back yard . I would like to know if any of you have any tips for me to help me find it. I think that the ring should come in as pulltab on my 250 but any other tips would be appreciated. Thanks.

If it's 14K, it will probably show up in the pull tab-nickel region on the ACE 250....probably the same on all detectors. But.....what I would do, (assuming it was lost recently) is hunt with the disc set at about 4or 5, hunt in all metal, and use a screwdriver to pry up any and all shallow targets. You could probably knock out the iron and the last notch on the right at the opposite end on the meter. That ring, if in fact it was lost in the back yard in the grass should be easy to find.

Don't forget to post a pic, and good luck

First of all how long has it been lost? If just recently I would hunt in all metal and investigate everything. If it was just lost it should be laying right on top or at the base of the grass unless it has been stepped on. I hope they haven't mowed.. As John mentioned, use a screwdriver for retrieval. If it's a recent drop it should be easy to find.

If it was lost that long ago it could be at any depth or long ago chewed up or tossed out of the yard by a mower. The depth that it could be at depends on many things, type of soil, foot traffic, weather, yard sprinkling, etc. Also if they have a lot of bird traffic in their yard many birds love shiny things, especially crows and ravens. Good luck.
