Shocking eh? Not as shocking to hear than when I went in Friday to get my paycheck to hear people tell me that they heard I quit my job.
Now I now the boss was unhappy that both I and the guy (he is helping keep his head above water during the winter by hiring him to help me do maintenance) both worked all day last Sunday.
There was an event with over 300 people attending,,,we had to tear the the previous event that got over Satirdau night about midnight and set up for this one happening Monday.
Interestingly the guy hired to help me gets more hours of work in each week. So not too happy about that but quit my job??? In this economy??? No idea how that rumor got started. I did mention I didn't know when to come in so would be at phone call reach when needed next. No calls all week so only 2 days of work on this next pay check for one week. I did call that night after I got home and told the desk clerk that I wasn't feeling well and even she said I didn't sound well. Mentioned some work I forgot and if she would write a note in case the other guy arrived and had time to get the things done...but knew he had to finish setting up for the Monday event and didn't know if I was to come in and help him or not. Said if I was needed that it should be cleared with the boss first.
Never heard anything. Figured all was well, my help not being needed. Another event was coming up on Saturday night and I always like setting up a couple days in advance in case of changes and also so if table cloths etc need to be put on tables the housekeeping people don't have to be hurried at the last minute waiting on me.
Tues, Wed, Thur - no phone calls. Friday I called to see if the checks were there - was told yes but not being released til afternoon but since I wanted to get some errands done in another town requiring my check the head desk clerk said to come in and get it.
That was when I found out that I quit my job.
I informed them I had not. I did find out 'the other guy' now has 2 young guys with strong backs and weak minds helping him set up for events. The jury is still out if that is a good or bad thing for me. I did come in Friday night to work - boss and staff were in a meeting about some big problem I had no knowledge of. Got tired of waiting, got signed in and picked up the keys and went to work. Did a few tasks and people I ran into kept asking didn't you quit? :nonono:
Finally saw the boss as I came out of the maintenance room. He said I was told you quit. I told him I had not. I said that if ever a time comes I might quit that he and I would go talk and if and only then we could not work something out and I had no other option then I would quit but directly to him at that point in time. I asked why he didn't call me as I had mentioned when we last talked. He said "I don;t call people who quit." Well that makes sense...except this was a rumor not a fact.
Later that night he was going home and on his way out the door I asked "Bruce, are you glad I didn't quit?" He smiled and said "The next time you quit you better tell me". I could tell he was wanting to chuckle but didn't. I know he is glad I didn't quit.
I'm going in to work every day to show my face and if there is work to do, I will be there to do it. The other guy comes in at 6 am and runs until he stops. Yesterday I came in at 2 (figured he had his 8 hours in he could now leave and quit taking my hours). He found out too I did not quit and he told one of the young lads that have been helping him that since I am there and his 8 hours is done its time to head out and let Pete take over. This guy does well drilling in the spring - fall. Guess he loves getting big pay checks in the winter by working long hours. I have to admit he has done a lot around there to the point I wondered if he wasn't after my job. I am still the maintenance guy and he even mentioned that and also that he is only there til the ground thaws. So I am happy that
I did not quit....despire the rumors otherwise.
Just thought ya might wonder where I have been, God bless all. I see the troll is back...I won't respond to anything the troll has to say.
