I ran an air test on the F5 and F2

I only use air testing for a comparison, and not what it will truly detect in the ground (depth).

Each figure is not where the coin was detected, but where I got a definite hit, tone and display.(keep that in mind because the coin may have been detected a half inch or more as a chopped tone, still giving a segment display).

F5......Quarter 7 1/2"-Nickel 7 1/2"-dime 7"- penny-8". I found that 65 was perfect for average on gain, and threshold around 0. If I cranked up gain, I gained about an inch before unstability kicked in. Raising threshold instead, may gain 1/2 inch, but the ability for a clean hit suffered somewhat. AM mode gained me about 2" for threshold change on all coins. I used the stock concentric 10" coil.

F2....Quarter 6"-Nickel 6"-dime 5"-Penny-6". This with the sense at max. Holding the PP gave me an inch more on all coins. I used the stock concentric 8" coil.

I, myself, am not a deep seeking digger. I'll take whats in these ranges with my Lesche and move on. I love coins and jewelry, so for me this suffices.

I am going to try another test. My F5 and F2 finds tabs and they almost always activate the nickel segment. Someone told me that the NEL Sharpshooter coil will improve the TID signal and do a better job of separating nickels and tabs. Don't know if it's true, but am going to put the Sharpshooter on and give it a try (maybe not today though).

Just wasting time and figure I'd post this.

Hmmmm...I wonder if they both had the same size coil if the results would be nearly the same?

Could be, Mud. But when you went hunting, the F5 would probably have the advantage with manual GB and the ability to increase gain and threshold. The F2 was maxed out.

If it weren't for the F5s extra abilities (like when I go to the beach), the F2 is excellent for coins and jewelry.
