I see Gold! update....

Took this to another jeweler today. He said it was base metal. The girl helping me asked if someone might have stamped it 14K to pass it off as gold, he said no, it was stamped by the manufacturer, didnt know why they would. Oh well.
 
It was not until 1906 that regulations concerning the "hallmarking" were issued in the USA.

Therefore if your piece is older, it could very well be identified with 14k for a gold filled or plated ring.
