My back has felt great for around a week or 10 days now. I spent Christmas up North where it was cold and snowy. On the drive back yesterday, I kept hearing confirmation about a warm one today. The further South I journeyed the less snow there was. When I got into town I passed the closest hunting spot I go to and it was still buried. I decided that if it did get warm and if I felt OK and if I could find someplace unfrozen and relatively dry I would go out. The first spot I checked this morning fit the bill. I hunted for 2 hours which is amazing to me for this time of year. We got a small thaw last year around this time too though that lasted 4 days. This one is only supposed to last until tomorrow. I had already closed out my MD books for clad and silver items so I decided that the coins would begin my 2009 season. What were the chances of finding anything good anyway? I found a New Zealand 10 cent coin from 1972. Nice surprise. A long way from that coin was this UK (I think) 10 New Pence. It's quite a large coin. I think I found a much smaller 10p last year which I'll compare it to when I can dig out my book. A Namco token and bike brake and a few other keepers rounded out the day. I began the drive home and realized that even if my accounting called the coins 2009, my brag book contained a coin labeled last coin 2008 which technically would be an impostor. I had no idea what the last coin I found was so I did a U-turn and headed back. I got a nice signal in between dime and quarter and got my first 925 ring of 2009 (fiscal.) 2.8 grams. What a reward for being completely anal retentive don't you think? I then found a coin spill of over a dollar (more good fortune) and then a lone dime which really is my last coin for 2008 (calendar.) Back feels pretty good. I'll rest up for a day or two. I have a real easy week coming up. Only working one day. I sure hope we get one more warm one!

Now that all the State Quarters are out, I'm going to try to find all 50 in as few hunts as possible. (Screw the territrorial phonies.) I got 5 todayGeorgia, Maine, Mississippi, North Dakota, and West Virginia. I bet it takes about 40-50 of my normal hunts.
