I think i have a problem with my x terra 705

Hello , let me explain you my problem.

I have been using my 705 over three years now its a great machine, but in the past 3 times that i have gone out with it, my findings are not so good, every time i find a target numbers jump all over, and the sound its not good my sensitivity was on 20, i think that auto tracking is failing, let me tell you why, last weekend i had my sensitivity on 20 as i said, without autotraking on , and in the screen when you push the button of ground balance the number that appeared was 14 because i ground balanced it manual and had autotraking off, i used it like that like 3 minutes , then i turned ON autotraking and i started moving the coil right and left so that i can see how was the mineralization on the ground , numbers started to go up from 14 to 30 28, 35 46 then 40 ,30 55, 60 72 etc etc ,, then i turned off auto tracking and i balanced it manual again and it went to 13,and it was stable, i know that the higher the Numbers less mineralization, but i know that my ground balance numbers when i ground balance have been between 5 and 15 where i live my ground is very minerlized , , i don't know there was a lot of pieces of iron on the ground maybe that was the problem what do you think?

For got to say i use 90% of auto tracking when i go out and i have been in places where theres have been a lot of iron and have not had this problem

Thanks

You may have already taken this into consideration but just in case, the manual reads "Once Tracking is pressed, the detector will track very fast for the first three seconds"

It was more than three seconds, over 2 minutes i walked with traking ON so that i can see the numbres jump all over

Have you tried resetting the machine yet?

The only time that I ever had the problem that you are describing is when I had a coil go bad. I put that same coil on (3) 705's and they all acted the same way. It was almost as if the sensitivity was up too high but each detector did it even when the sensitive was almost as low as it could go.

If you have access to another coil you may want to see if changing the coil makes a difference. If it does then that will narrow it down to the coil. If it doesn't then you may need to send the coil and the controller back to Minelab. The thing that was a little crazy was when they got my coil they said that they could not duplicate the problem. I would have believed them and thought that maybe it was EMF or something in the surrounding areas of the detector but I tried that coil in very different areas on different detectors and it still acted up. It was under warranty so they replaced the coil with a new one and that one was fine. I guess it's possible that something happened in shipping that caused whatever was wrong with my original coil to remedy itself but who knows.
