Unplugged the battery to charge it after a hunt and the rubber gasket was all wet around the contacts....... Should I be putting a coat of silicone lube on it each time I put it back together???

Maybe there was water in the screw on connector when I took it apart... Had no problems with it in the water, so am just wondering......

Borntofli, check the rubber gasket if it is worn out change with the charging plug's rubber gasket.

And yes put a little silicon lube all over .You don't have to every time!

Also i noticed a little water and just tightened the nut properly..... i wasnt tightening mine enough.

i had a little condensation in mine last summer...... took it apart, let it air dry a few days, lubed o-ring,put it back together...then i took electrical tape and tightly wrapped a few laps around the joint just for added protection..stays dry now....

We have 2 excals and both were getting water in the battery - not a lot, just a frew drops but it was enough to cause it to false. We solved the problem with white silicone grease (the kind used for electronics) around the threads - make SURE you don't get it on the top near where the prongs go in or you'll get falsing signals until you clean it off. Apparently, it's a very common problem & this is the method we were told that worked. They were right.

Hope this helps.
