the cord is TOO short. I liked being able to quiet down my noisy ace so no one was looking but when I found a target and began to dig, I had to take my headphones off because the cord is just too short. How long are the cords normally? I am using the free pair that came with my ace, it has a volume control which worked great. Should I ge a cord extention or what?

I tried to use my headphones but here is the problem.....

i had the same problem ,and had a post here a week ago,lots of godd advices,i bought an extension cable,that works fine and later on i might buy a wireless pair,but i have to wait ,can't afford them right now
When I started out I tried to get used to wearing headphones. I was using a Bounty Hunter machine which had a volume control so I used a cheap pair of wlalkman style headphones. I also thought the cord was too short and one day I neatly sliced the cord in half with my spade. I am still not a fan of headphones.

I would think they would be long enough. If my coil is to close it interferes with my Vibraprobe. Here is what I do.
I squat down.
I put the control box next to me but put the coil at a 90 degree angle from me. That gets it far enough away not to cause interference. I also hold the cord a few inches from the connections and stretch it out when I start, especially if it is cold. Worst case scenario I guess you could get an extension.

Mine is also short but should stretch out to 8 foot, but it a pull, so i went to Radio Shack and got a connector and a 4 foot
extension.
OK is there any interference when using the wireless head phones? Radio Shack had some for 80 something, but
i was just wondering before i go out and get it

Do you have the cord coming across your body?? If you swing right handed, make sure the cord is coming off the right side of your head. If you swing left handed, cord coming off of left ear. The cords should be plenty long enough. I don't have the Ace phones, but I would think they would be plenty long if you set your machine down and you were on a knee. Personally, I hardly ever sit my machine down. Just bend at the waist and dig. Getting on your knees causes you to lose your power when you dig. And PLEASE don't give up on 'phones!! Any of you that don't use them, let me know where you hunt and I'll be along to clean up all that loot you're missing!!!
ok I got it figured out, I took my cord and stretched it out over and over and over and over.....lol
now it is no longer 24 inches it is a good 4 foot long now. I think I stretched it enough times that it did not recoil back to a short 24 inch length. I tried it out in my yard and it is perfect now!

I don't wear them, and I don't miss anything that I would if I actually wore
the phones. There is no difference in the three tones, etc whether a speaker,
or headphones. Ditto for pinpointing.. I can hear that tone fine.. Even the
ground hummmm...
Probably depends on a persons ears more than anything. Myself, I can
constantly hear the jet whine humming of the 250 itself while I'm detecting.
The audio coming from my headphone speakers is deafening in comparison
to that noise.
And the audio from my phones speakers is quiet compared to the actual
ace 250 speaker.. It's so loud it would wake the whole neighborhood.
Anyway, there is no advantage to phones unless you have a hearing problem
and can't hear the speaker. At least to me anyway...
My speaker is a tiny ear bud headphone, but I never actually wear it. It stays
clipped to my arm band. Even that tiny speaker I can hear many feet away.

Actually the biggest advantage is battery life. Batteries last twice as long with phones, plus they shield outside noise and wind and draw no attention. And in cold weather they keep your ears warm.

My Ace 250 came with terrible headphones that do not have volume control. I got the sports pack which have the ACE Sport Phones (Garret Part No: 1612400). They have a non-coiled cord. I went out and purchased the Deluxe Garrett Headphones (Garrett Part No: 1603000) for $29. They block out noise a lot better, they have independent volume control and they have a coiled cord. These are great for being only $29.95 directly from Garrett.
