ID EXCEL question

I was just wondering how many people have had problems with there ID Excel? I went out yesterday for the first time in a week and the thing has some kind of glitch. I put it in factory preset mode and it freezes up on 00 after the beep. I put new batteries in it.In search mode I could never get it to GB .Always got the 4 beeps. I was having real good luck with this detector but has a bug of some type. I bought it used so ,no warranty. I tried the coil connection but it seems OK.I will try another new set of battery's first before I send it in.How are the Fisher techs as far as turn around and price? I have never had to send my other fisher in so I don't know how the process of sending my excel to the DR. will be. I love the detector but have heard of electrical problems from other people. :unsure:Thanks for any help you can give.

Bird,, try this, i never had any problems , ever with Excel, but some of the first ones had some kinda sloppy wiring connections in the connector that is on the end of the cable that comes from the coil and fastens to the box connector, just unscrew it from the box, and push the little tabs down, it will slide apart, and see if there is a stray wire touching anything, it is the screw cable connector on the end of the cable, the one that connects to the box, give it a shot, there's not much clearance in there and it looks like a rookie did the wiring, I siliconed mine even tho it was ok, good luck:detecting::fisher::fisher::fisher::detecting::usmc::usaflag:

Thanks Bugar! I will give that a shot.I was told my detector was bought new less then a year ago.Hope I can find the problem.:fisher::usaf:

Now as far as Fisher's repair turn around, this is their busy time of year (winter) so I would expect a minimum of 3 weeks to a month turn around on the Excel.

Now as far as repairs are concerned, I would call Fisher and let them know what its doing and see if its something that you can do on your own. If not, who knows they might repair it without charge if its an early model. I would let them know about the threads on the various forums about the display problems on the earlier models and see if it will SHAME them into doing the right thing and fixing the problem without charge since I believe it to be a factory defect in these units.
