ID NORM and audio response

pine3874

Well-known member
I know that if I activate ID NORM that the target ID value that would have been displayed when the 18 kHz frequency was selected will be displayed for all frequencies. How does this work with the audio response? For example, if I set up my 18 kHz in 5 tones and use the same break points for the other frequencies(4,8,12) will the tones in all frequencies also be the same as in 18 kHz if I have the ID NORM activated or do I have to set up different break points for each frequency?

Sorry for the long winded question and I hope that it is understandable. Thanks

Your question is a good one. Why would you want to run 5 tone? In running 5 tones, here's what is most likely going to happen. Let's say you decide to hunt only in 12khz. In 5 tone you will hit say a nickle. Depending on how you have your Deus setup i.e. disc, sens, TX power, reactivity, and silencer settings and depending on the soil and the nickels depth and orientation it may give various VDI readings. Now switch to say 8khz, again the above apply, except now you are using 8khz-a freq that's not so nickel friendy. So again the tone the nickel rings up may be different and also may be different between swings over the said nickel.
You may be better using some notch to maybe get a better idea of what's under your coil.
For relic hunting 2 tone is best. Since you are in a dig all nonferrous setting.
For coins 3 tone I feel is better. With breaks at disc setting, 30, and 65-70. This with some smartly assigned notch you can hunt some very trashy yards and do well. I don't favor normalized settings on Deus. You can use your unNormalized setting to your advantage when over possible iron. Not so with Normaized setting. By the way in UnNormalized setting over iron you will see VDI reading remain fairly constant between freqs, whereas over a nonferrous target, switching freqs you will notice lower VDI readings as you drop down in freqs. Hope this helps. Good luck with your Deus!!

After a lot of experimenting, I believe I can now answer my question.
With NORM ID activated the target ID will be the same as the 18 kHz target ID in all frequencies(4,8,12). Unfortunately, the audio ID will also be the same as the 18 kHz audio ID, which basically makes it unusable for audio ID if you are using 4 tone audio ID. Therefore, one must save a separate program for each frequency with different audio break points of ones choosing and deactivate the NORM ID to be able to use them.
At least that's the way I understand it.

Very smart way to look at this question
