IDX Pro Question. Help

I bought a used IDX pro and when a guy turns the Disc on the way down it still will not pick up Nickels. If a guy switch's it to Black sand it will pick Nickels up, Right before the coin's mark. Is this the way they work or is something wrong with it?
 
did you mean when a guy turns the discrimination "all" the way down/ You would pick up nickles with the discrim set all the way down, up to the first factory preset. Since you got it to work with the black sand switch on- did you have the nickle in any unusual spot the time you tried it? - your best bet is to send it back to the nearest service center to your state with a note asking for a service quote before fixing. If the Disc is set to Ring Range or lower it should pick up nickels. If set to Coin Range it will not pick up nickels. If you turn on black sand switch, Ring Range will still up nickels and Coin Range still will NOT pick up nickels.
Are the batteries new?
Make sure the coil cable is screwed into detector snugly.
Check all other switch setting.

It will not pick up Nickels in the Ring setting. I tryed a Zinc penny, and a pop top, It will not pick up any of these in the Ring setting. I sent it back to the guy I bought it from. Hopefully he will return my money.

There has to be something wrong with it. It will not pick up Nickels, Zinc Pennies or even a Pop Top in the Ring Range setting. I sent it back to the guy I bought it from. Thanks for the help.
