I've used mine now going into my 5th summer. Learn to trust the screen. U have to develop a feeling that your unit is indicating what it sees. It is right on with coins. I leave mine on ring setting most of the time unless it's real trashy & U don't feel like digging a lot of tabs - say in a park near picnic shelters & tables. It's good on nickles (ring setting) but watch the screen & make sure it's locked on to the nickle reading. If it waffles to either side it's almost certain it's a pull tab or bottle cap. It's a good medium priced unit & has probably the best bang for the buck. It has the same coil as the XLT. I've found Diamond Rings, Womens as well as Mens Wedding Bands, Watches, earrings, Bullets, Tons of coins but not a lot of silver as this area has been hunted for about 40 years. Most of the good places are pretty much cleaned out. It's getting harder every year to hit the silver jackpot.
