If Depth pays the money, which one - Cortes or MXT?

Hi,
I am trying to decide between these two for my next machine. I have read the forums for both. I am looking for a machine that will pull dimes at 10" and quarters at 13". I asked this same question on the Tesoro forum, and it was suggested that I ask it here to to be fair.
Both of these machines have features that I like and want. If I had the money I would buy both, but I don't so I have to make a choice. Will the MXT hit on a dime at 10"? quarter at 13"?
Who and where? I am tired of wavering beteen the two and need to make a decision. <img src="/metal/html/cry.gif" border=0 width=40 height=15 alt=":cry">
Thanks for the help

Mike,
I dont know if either one will go that deep as much of this will depend on where you detect and ground conditons and even coils you use. I have got dimes at 9 inches, but not you normal hits and you have to know you detector.
I have used the Cortes also plus many more and find the Minelab Explorer or Sovereign will get the most depth with accurate ID, but they have a longer learning curve than some like. The MXT is the easiest to use and between the Cortes and the MXT I find the MXT has more depth and more accurate ID. You can also do more with the MXT and with the auto trac the detector is ground trac at all time to give you max depth.
If your area is not real trashy I have been hearing a lot of the 14 inch Excellerator coil giveing some very impressive depth on the MXT, but I can not say for sure as I have never used one myself, but would like to try in the spring.
Between the Cortes or the MXT the MXT has it hands down for me on depth and ID.

I would agree with everything Rick says--I dont think you will get that depth from the stock coil--I have got a quarter at 12 in. with the 14 in. EXcellerator on a Football field--It does work very good in trash for a large coil-If you got the 18 in. EXcellerator I think you would have no problem on a Quarter at 12+ in. I have got used to the weight of the 14 so in the spring I am getting the 18 in and go over the same ground again and see If I find things that are deeper--deathwind1

Sorry, I just had to do it.
But seriously the MXT is a very good machine, and I do belive you would like it, after useing it for a while! I sure wouldn't sell mine! And I sure wouldn't buy the other! Just my corroded 2 cents worth!

Doesn't matter as much which one of the two you choose. The person who masters what his detector is telling him will find the deeper coins.

MXT.
You stated: <STRONG>"Both of these machines have features that I like and want."</STRONG>
However, you didn't say what it was in particular that you <EM>'like'</EM> or <EM>'want'</EM>, and I see very little in common between these two models.
I would welcome an E-mail to discuss this, if you want. Just send me one and I'll reply quickly.

Too often we think buying a new machine will make all the difference in the amount of finds we make. Sometimes this is true, but more times than not, our success rate is based on our degree of research and the "relationship" we have with our detector.

I havn't used a Cortes but have the mxt and have got dimes at 9 inches with the 14 inch excellerator coil. They sounded off good and was running the gain on preset ( 9 1/2) so I would imagine with the big coil if you cranked the gain up a bit more then it should hit a 10 inch dime. And as DW says for a big coil it does a good job in the trash also. But bear in mind your ground will play a big role in the depth you get. The mxt is very simple to operate and you can get a good deal on the ex coil if you buy from Kellyco, they sell the ex. coils. With the stock coil I have got 6-7 inches on dimes and have got nickels at 8+ inches.I think you will like the mxt.

You do have to learn your detector. But your detector cant find what it doesnt see. I would guess weve all gone over stuff thats beyond our own detectors range. I know at the ocean beaches you need all the depth you can get.
