If I could design the next Explorer..............the control box would be chest mounted, the screen about 6 inches below..................

big-ears

my chin, so I could look down for a quick screen check, the audio would go directly to a pair of head phones that are part of the detector itself. Detachable at some point but not left up to the buyer to match to the detector. A strong cable would run through the stem from the housing. Chest mounting the explorer would give room for a bigger housing if needed for extra features. A light stem/coil combination would help with id since so many times you have to move the coil to get info. Another version might be totally belt mounted, are there others who have a better idea?:super:

"..are there others who have a better idea?" No offense but yeah, hang the Explorer housing from your big-ears instead "...the screen about 6 inches below my chin, so I could look down for a quick screen check...", heheha!

But yes belt mounting maybe better to keep it lower and a better view of the screen that is kept still and not moving. On the shaft it is waving around and harder to see and keep track of...I also have a Musky and thought of hip-mounting my XT-70 as well...

I hunt with a friend that has chest mounted his machine. It sounds like his setup is exactly what you have described. It works well for him. I'll do the same thing with my SE after the warranty has expired, Happy Thanksgiving.

At that distance I would have to wear reading glasses to see the screen then I couldn't see the ground. It would have been great till I passed 40.

:ranting: put soft stuff on the arm cuffs for the old coots like me who take blood thinner.that hard plastic keeps me beat up.:jump::minelab:

Give me a soft helmet with built in headphones and "see-through HUD visor". Some of the control box will then be in the headpiece and some on the shaft. With the HUD I will be able to see what is on the screen all the time no matter where I am looking.
Whatever is left of the control box needs to be right in front of the handle so I can punch buttons while hunting.

point and would flash when directly over the target. I like your idea. Also I like the headphones becoming more a part of the detector as a whole instead of a pick and choose situation by the detector owner. I think from my experience of having 3 different types of headphones I get very wide variation in responses and with the explorers audio is so important and the more I use the explorer the more it speaks to me. Listen to Bryce talk of "whispers" in his post for the deep coins he finds.
