If luck has a name, it just might be Mud! :fisher:

My buddy and I have been hunting a new field that we decided to check out earlier this week on our way to another spot. Upon just getting started on this new area my hunting buddy Chris hit a silver Washington pretty near right off. Of course, that got us going. Well, I should say, it got him going. After about an hour and nothing but clad, Memorials and the occasional wheat back, he ventured off across the road and started hunting a curb strip. It wasn't long when I happened to see him doing the HAPPY DANCE and started walking towards me holding something in his hand. I asked him what he had found and he said a 1866 Seated quarter. Wow, I said, good for you. Yeah, I did mean it, I think. He handed it to me and I noticed a small loop on the top that a small chain would have gone through and something about the coin just didn't look right. The lettering appeared to be, well, not english. As it turned out it was a 1866 type 1 90 % silver Seated Peruvian coin that is listed as rare. And to top that mornings hunt off, he shortly thereafter un-earthed a 1901 Barber dime.

The next day I finally got on the silver board from that field, well, 30 % anyway, with a 1943p War nickel. Yesterday I finally got a full fledged 90 per center recovering a 1942 Merc. The 1912 Barber dime I got a few days ago off a spot nearby this most recent spot.

Now to the subject line, LUCK and Mud. Mudpuppy and I had been in touch as he was making a business run down into the deep south and on his way back was planning on staying in the Memphis area. I gave him the names of a couple of motels just within a few minutes from my place and we made plans to meet this morning for breakfast before he headed up to Nashville. I walked into the lobby of his motel this morning at 5:30a and spotted a near shaved headed guy looking at google earth on the motels computer. Knew right off that had to be the infamous Mudpuppy. And as it turned out, he is pretty near exactly what his posts imply. One great fellow. Over breakfast we exchanged war stories for near a couple of hours and then from the back of our vehicles we looked at some of each others gold and silver jewelry finds. We then parted ways vowing to try and hook up for a good hunting outing somewhere between Tennessee and Michigan in the not to distant future. While he was working, driving down the interstate to see clients, I was playing. And my encounter with John brought me luck.

Yep, I dug 3 silver coins this morning along with a couple bucks in clad and cents, 4 wheats, all 40's decade, and a green disc with some lettering along the rim. It is a hair larger then a nickel and a hair smaller then a quarter. It is getting a vinegar soak currently. What ever it is, it is pretty toasted. This new field is developing into a pretty decent spot. And the new version 2 F 75 is purring right along. HH jim tn

Nice finds buddy.:fisher:

Nice finds Jim. Seldom do we get to interact with our forum friends. Glad to see it all work out for both of you.----------IB

That green disc I found today has a 1867 date on it and I think I can make out a shield. It must be a 2 cent piece. HH jim tn

Jim that is a lot of good finds and a 2 center to boot..NICE.
Glad you got to meet the famous MUDPUPPY. His legend grows....

Remembering some the posts he's made about drinking half empty beer's he has found, eating tossed aside cheese and crackers and twinkies and the like, I made sure I kept my arm between he and my waffle this morning. HH jim tn

I just got home! That was an 800 mile haul with a few business stops thrown in..prob 2400 rd trip on account of I had to go all the way to Mobile...left here Tues at 5am...

Regarding that sumptuous feast Jim treated me to at the Waffle House this morning, He would not let me pick up the check! I didnt fight him too hard over it to deprive him of a blessing!... I will need to soak my shorts in vinegar though!:rofl: Watch out for those Waffle Houses boys, This one was a good clean one on account of I got 20 miles away before it went through me...At a real dirty one, you wont make it out of the booth!...At an average one, you might make it out to the parking lot,

I'm currently decompressing from that deep bounce dive with a few cold ones to try to knock the road buzz out of my head!...Thanks Jim! It was great to meet you and somehow I feel you make your own Luck!
Mud

I know right? So I ate a couple of those blue paper towels from the window wash hopper at a gas station in Indiana just north of Louisville, and that seemed to help clog me up and stop the leakage..a guy needs fiber sometimes.....good thing I had that spray can of Old Spice Fiji Mist in Rosie, and I employed it liberally.. The whole cab smelled like a porta potty in the Philippines by the time I made Nashville only 190 miles from Memphis!.....I bet I lost 20 brown pounds on this calamatous voyage..but enough about my plumbing issues, causes and cures, and the Waffle House fare....Who can pull over and hunt a totlot with a bad case of alot of trot?..

I did pull some clad at a few little parks in Creola Ala-by-gosh-Bama Wednesday before my customer meeting...thats the farthest South Ive hunted thus far. Fired up the 70 in Michigan mode and cleaned it right up....I also threw a handful of zincs out the window driving through Birmingham in REVIERS honor....just as I was passing that statue of Vulcan there...it felt like the right thing to do..anybody that knows the history of Bessemer knows that whole town is like trying to hunt on a steel plate!..

This is a great Country, a guy can just jump in a vehicle and go wherever they want with a few shekels in their pocket for gas and a detector for a reason to be there...And! We have good Forum friends spaced around the Country that may even pay for breakfast!:clapping:
Mud

Mud I didn't realize that Rosie was a Road Warrioress in addition to being your local stealth mobile--hey put some good oil in her--none o that Dollar store stuff. Glad you made it back safe.

Jim,

Nice recovery on the silver coins! Glad you were able to meet the infamous Mudpuppy. If Mud comes through CT, I will make sure I don't bring him to the local Waffle House. :poke:

   Thanks for the laughs Jim.

In the end...Rosie wasn't the only one leaking oil on that trip...

OMG, I miss reading all of these insane posts! LOL

I won't lie, though, I had to read that part about the two of you in the back seat several times before I figured out it was all innocent.
All that I saw was, "...and then from the back of our vehicles we looked at some of each others...", and that's when I had to stop.
