Joe - I rarely ask for permission as I usually get turned down. Guess I don't have the gift of gab. So I either bolster my nerves and ask or pass on it. Steve in so az

Hi Joe, Don't go all rigged up with shovel in hand and be very polite by talking and introducing yourself first and then ask when it feels like the right time! Before you start :detecting: (if it is okay) show them, if they ask you, how you dig, fill up and make neat work of your hunting the ground. You might need to have a paper that you both sign and that way they get part or none of the finds! Don't offer them the first pick because most will take the silver, gold and good stuff....a member of our club learned that the hard way! Just go and ask and, if they say NO then they say no, but Hey they could say Yes and then maybe some nice finds will be found! You will know if you want to continue asking or not after you do several requests for detecting in their yards or on their grounds! Good luck and go get those goodies! Also researching areas pays off, too! Many on this forum do researches and have good results from doing the work first before :detecting: :)

God Bless!

I can date a house by looking at it pretty well. So I shoot for as old as possible. Then ask for permission. I also use old maps.
