Illegal to dig on Florida beaches????

Ivan

New member
I thought that the U.S. was a free country..................now this??? Go to You Tube and key in " Florida illegal to dig". A news man was threatened with arrest for trying to dig in the sand. Check out this video.

Don't even have to go to you tube. There are sections of beaches that are federal parks, or closed for turtle habitation. Then there is a large section from the high-tide mark out that is leased for salvage and therefore illegal to hunt. Of course, the dunes are usually off limits too.

Still is a free country. Only now, that is slowly and steadily changing.

Please......remember in Nov. :starwars:

End of July was in Pompano Beach for a short week and hunted there, Deerfield beach and Delray beach. Turtle nests were marked. Talked with life guards and an officer; they indicated that as long as I steered clear of the marked nests and the properties marked private, I was OK. Hunted without issues.

Lot of private beach area in Boca Ratan ... so did not hunt there, but there is still a lot of legal beach to hunt.

Crispy is right about electing the right people in November. Parks, our public land, need to be opened up to more public uses rather than closed down for various bureaucratic reasons like the trend has been.

Will be staying at Amelia Island in November for work related meetings. Any idea if hunting there is a possibility?

i dont think you can hunt on amelia island.im not sure but im thinking i was told at one point you cant?? might wanna check with locals to be sure call the chambers of commerce dept or parks dept there to be sure..

i am whit junklord i live in Miami
and i never had any problems!!!!!!( but them at the same time i stay clear of the problem areas)

Because of the oil problem, federal, state and private police are now stopping people from digging in the sand.

Seems they don't want to tell anyone that the beaches are poisoned with oil. Personally, I would not risk going anywhere near Siesta Beach for many years to come as the Corexit is now present in the sand and water on that most beautiful beach. You can bet that people will be dying because of that oil spill.

PS...here is a test done at Siesta key beach:

Sarasota Water/Sand Tests, www.testingthewater.org, September 22, 2010:

Summary of Testing

Sample taken: Sept. 14, 2010
Location: Siesta Key Beach, FL near high tide line
Type of sample: Sand
Lab: Analytical Chemical Testing Laboratory (Alabama)
Result: 173 mg/kg (ppm) of total petroleum hydrocarbons

There should be no petroleum hydrocarbons in the sand or water. 173 parts per million is way toxic. Stay out of the water and off the beach if you care about living.

They turned our Gulf into a toxic wasteland. :sadwalk:

Yes they did and they are lying about it.

I loved going to Florida in the winter and spending hours on the beaches detecting in and out of the water. I found my share of gold and diamonds and spent many hours of enjoyment going water hunting. Siesta beach was one of my favorites along with Lido and Desoto Beach.

I will not ever go into the Gulf ever again with what I know. I just love life too much to risk my health going on the beaches of the Gulf. You can bet that these reports will never make it to most people and that they will be in the water oblivious to the dangers on the sand and in the water. It is not being reported anywhere except locally and even then not covered too often.

We as metal detectorists must warn others that there is danger on the beaches around the Gulf of Mexico. I am very sad about the disaster area that is now the Gulf. I fear that in the future, many people will be dying because of ignorance of the problems in the water.

I guess I will have to get myself a TDI and go out to Arizona to find gold now. I'm mad as hell !!!!

BP said they would be there to the end of the clean up. I do not see an end of what they have done. They have Ruined the beaches for everyone and everything living anywhere in and around the beach.

They're not cleaning it up......they're covering it up!

The whole lot of them are just a bunch of liars. Oops......I'd better watch what I'm saying because I'm sure that they are.

BOOG. You should not have any problems detecting on Amelia island,EXCEPT FOR FT. CLINCH ,on the north end of Amelia, the public beaches ,except for the dunes are open, but please fill your holes and you should have a great time...............

Are you smoking crack? There are more than 173 ppm in the air you breath while driving down the road. Toxic? Only if you are talking about warfare nerve agent.

I agree that the accident in the gulf was bad, and that the dispersants are probably worse, but worrying about 173ppm of petroleum residue is ridiculous.

Uhmmm...I beg to differ. What is your qualifications to make remarks like that? Do you have a degree like the doctors and scientists who are reporting these findings?

There is not 173 PPM of hydrocarbons in the air while driving. That is something I think you pulled out of the air! I and the the report never stated that it was in the air but in the top layer of the sand! That top layer should, according to experts, have "0" ppm of oil in it. 173 ppm is a lot of oil residue. The tests did not mention the presence of Corexit in the sand. With tens of millions of gallons of Corexit dumped into the Gulf, it is HIGHLY toxic even at really low levels. IT is in effect a dissolver of skin tissue at very low levels.

Censored Gulf news: Gulf Coaster Trail of Tears. Evacuees flee for health and safety
September 13th, 2010 4:36 pm ET

Parents of little Briana Frye left their Pensacola, Florida home for their health and safety. The young family was taken into the home of a Nebraskan family. After seeing what heavy metal ladened rain did to their plants, Briana's parents, Rick and Lynne Frye researched, learned about the present Gulf poisons cumulative effects, and then knew that to protect their child, they needed to leave the Gulf Coast.

Over the weekend, two Pensacola residents reported to Gulf Coast Barefoot Doctors that they are ill and bleeding internally. These women left their homes, felt better and the bleeding stopped. Upon returning to their homes, the bleeding and other symptoms also returned.

Heather Dixey, an avid gardener at her Pensacola home, told the Examiner, "Before I left for OKC to detox, I started getting crusty, bloody boogers. The day after I came back, so did the crusty, bloody boogers."

EPA whistleblower, fired for exposing toxins in the September 11, 2001 New York City mass murder, Hugh Kaufman recently said in a Democracy Now! interview with Amy Goodman that Corexit is suppose to cause internal bleeding. (Dupr

Yeah..... I'm a hazmat tech. I deal with lethality limits for a living. I am also the breathing air compressor tech for my department. I am responsible for making sure the scba bottles have safe air. Have you ever "smelled" exhaust? Smelled gasoline while pumping or driving past a gas station? Been anywhere near a lawnmower? You breathed in WAY more tham 173 ppm of hydrocarbons. Have you even looked at the microscopic percentage 173 PARTS PER MILLION is? The "test" you refer to means nothing. Number of samples taken? times taken? What spacing of samples taken? control samples? Was a boat just in the area? an waverunner? proximity to storm water run-off? Distance from parking lot or roadway? I have been to Sarasota's beaches. You are making statements which simply are not true.

See my previous posts about the problems on the beaches. If you disagree, then take your hazmat tech degree and argue against the doctors and scientists who know what the real problem is. Like scissors, paper, rock, your hazmat tech whatever is beaten by PHD's & doctorates every time! Your argument is not with me, but with people who are far more knowledgeable than you or I.

The problem on the beaches is not being reported in order to keep people coming to the beaches. The 9/11 first responders were told that the air was OK to breath. Now hundreds of them have died and many more will. THE VERY SAME THING IS GOING ON AROUND THE GULF.

Obviously you have not been trained with your hazmat tech degree? about the dangers of corexit 9500. If you think corexit 9500 is ok, then please contact the entire rest of the world as they have banned it as being extremely dangerous. Maybe you can change the minds of scientists, doctors and everyone else. I would suggest that you stick your hand in a glass of corexit 9500 to show us all how safe it really is.

Me thinks you know nothing about the real problems around the Gulf. Get a clue.....people are getting sick and dying.......it is a real problem....and it really does not matter what you think.

Maybe you work for BP?
