Illegal to dig on Florida beaches????

Ok, I tried being nice. You are obviously an idiot. You can disparage me all you want, it doesn't make your lies any more true. I can find "scientists" and "doctors" to say anything for cash. Ever seen all those infomercials with all those "doctors" saying how great that product works? This was a discussion about PPM of hydrocarbons found on a beach, not about the dispersants. I never said corexit wasn't bad stuff.

Since you have ignored my questions about the veracity of the study and decided to attack me instead, you must obviously see the faults in the study you are trying to promote as religion.

Go pound sand and spread your lies elsewhere.

Uhm...You tried to be nice? ........I did not attack you. You seem to be very touchy on this subject. I never called you a name. I am just pointing out that there are scientists and doctors who are saying there are dangers on the beaches since the oil spill. You say you are a haz tech person. Maybe you are and maybe you aren't. If you are, then your knowledge is less than and not equal to a PHD or doctorate. That is a fact.

Lies? Show me where in my posts I lied. Please do so. I have only showed the videos of television stations that are reporting on what is going on. Seems the national media will not and there seems to be a big cover up of the after effects of this spill.

You called me an idiot. That was not called for.

I still ask that you please contact all the scientists and doctors that say that Corexit 9500 is dangerous and demonstrate to them with your superior knowledge that they are wrong and you are right. I am sure they will want to have your valued opinion on the subject Mr. haz tech guy......hey that would make a good beer commercial.

The video I posted is from a TV station that wanted to see if they could find oil on the beaches, They did and were told they could not dig on the beaches by BP people and law enforcement. I wonder why that is?

The original question was "Is it illegal to dig on Florida beaches ?" The obvious answer is it used to be legal but now BP seems to control the beaches and they are saying no you cannot dig.

I see no reason to attack me except to say that you seem to get angry at me for mentioning BP. My question is then.....DO YOU WORK FOR BP?

I am not happy that what I love to do is now in danger from this spill. I loved to go to the beaches and hunt. I now cannot and will not due to the carelessness of BP. The value of the property I own in Florida is now in danger of losing value due to this. I am not happy with government, the national media and BP.....

I see little value of making this a forum for personal attacks from argumentative people such as yourself.

Have a nice day if that is ever possible for you.

PS...here are some photos of the beach at Ocean Springs, MS........not very nice for metal detecting.

Clams, oysters and scallops anyone?

Aren't you glad that you didn't pop that seated Liberty coin out of the ground with a screwdriver?

Hey Crispy, that is a sore subject with me. I did that and scratched a nice 1876 centennial seated liberty quarter. Found it with my E-trac at an old homestead and was in a hurry because it was starting to rain. Popped it out with my screwdriver/probe and put a nice big scratch on it.

I never use a screwdriver after that !

My message exactly! I am truly sorry for your loss.

Thanks Finderskeeper

I live in NW Fla not far from the area in question. The video you showed is from Ch3 news in Pensacola. It is plainly stated in the Ch 3 report that the confrontation between the reporter and the the guy in the yellow vest (I think hired security) and the Park ranger all took place within the Gulf Coast National Seashore.
The GCNS has always restricted metal detecting on the beaches and that fact is well know by most detectorists in the area. You cannot detect there and dig. Its an extension of the Nation Park system. To me it is obvious that the guy in the yellow vest was following orders which was to keep people away from the area where cleanup equipment was operating. He probably believed that there was no restrictions on digging in the sand in The National Seashore, so he told the reporter that he could dig at the public access area to get rid of him. Obviously the reporter took that to mean he could dig outside the restricted area down the beach somewhere. He may actually have gone to a public access area but that is not clear in the report. In any case he was still within the boundaries of the GCNS. The guy in the yellow vest then called for a GCNS representative (A Ranger) informing the GCNS that a reporter was on the beach. The confrontation between the report and the ranger showed the stupidity of both sides when they faced off. The ranger demands to see the reporter credentials and I think he says the reporter can not take photographs of the beach. That is absurd. People take photos all the time out there. I think the reporter is also told he cannot dig. Now this may be true. The GCNS has a list of DON'"Ts pages long so they can probably tell you just about anything is illegal, like picking any of the vegetation or disturbing the sand mice. I'm sure they could show that they have a restriction against digging. Having said that , kids and adults dig with beach stuff all the time out there. Plastic pails and kids digging in the sand is a common sight. They are not told to stop or leave the beach. I don't believe a ranger has ever told a little kid digging in the sand to stop. If they have a no digging in the sand rule it is not enforced. To me the Ranger was reacting to having the authority of the GCNS questioned. They don't like that. Like most Bureaucrats they react in negative ways. The reporter was making really stupid statements and never put his questions or statements into a form that would have really put the Ranger on the spot. This report is a young local guy who ran into a Federal authority figure and started babbling. The media (Ch 3 News Pens) didn't do there job either, or if they did it was under reported. They should have immediately challenged the GCNS on all aspects of the confrontation. Maybe they did and I didn't see it. Ch3 is not in the business of being confrontational they never dig into a story very deep.
The Gulf Coast National Seashore is a beautiful area enjoyed by locals and visitors. The last time I drove out there they still had all that heavy cleaning equipment and a restricted area cordoned off. Are they actually doing anything? I don't know. It's restricted. Does Ch3 News know? I live close to Navarre beach which is public (county owned) and joins the GCNS and not far from where the confrontation took place. . As far as I can tell it is safe to detect the public sand. I have seen no oil. We did have teams of guys in yellow vests going up and down the beach acting like they were on a beach holiday. I didn't see them making any oil recoveries. I detect there all the time and will continue to do so. I believe the whole thing has been blown way out of proportion. I'll take my chances.
In a way the beach confrontation shows both the arrogance and the stupidity of the GCNS Ranger and also the media. From my past observations of Ranger authority, they treat the area like it belongs to them personally. They are overbearing in dealing with the public. I don't hunt there because I know metal detecting is banned there. I hardly ever watch Ch3 news. Its a waste of my time because of their poor reporting and to me the video shows that clearly.

Misinformed...maybe.....but there are others reporting the same problems with breathing and going into the water and soon developing skin lesions. Dead birds and sea life near Sarasota. Hmmmm....maybe it is and maybe it isn't the oil.....but what would kill several different species of birds around Longboat Key?

People reporting problems with going into their swimming pools after a rain. Getting sick. I may be misinformed. But when I see so many reports from not only the news media but private individuals, I have to ask is it safe to go near the water?

Hired security? Like Wackenhut....which was hired by BP to keep reporters off the beaches? Some public beaches have been off limits to the press when the cleanup crews were supposedly working.

Time will tell if what we are being told is right or wrong. If the government is telling us something, then you can be pretty sure it is a lie.

I may be misinformed. I thought I was wrong once but I was wrong about that.

Oh yeah....here is a video that maybe you should watch......hyped up?...I'm not so sure.

And here is a report that was broadcast in Australia but will never be seen here in the US......

So now we get a report that the Obama administration and BP lied to the public about the amount of oil that was released. It was several hundred percent more than what they told us.

I guess we all were misinformed. I hate to say I told you so but I did say that the government likes to lie to us !
