WOW, Today was my day, with my Excal II, I just love going behind those hi speed detectorist. This guy was going to cover the whole beach before anyone could get anything so he thought. I tagged this super nice 15.4 gram 14K bracelet right were he had just went over at 80 MPH. It gave me a nice sound in all metal, but in disc. it was a lower then gold sound and kinda broken. I always dig any sound thats not a null. and as you can see it paid off. slow down and dig iffy just lower than gold sounds. Gene[attachment 147673 14KGoldBracelet12-14-09011.jpg]

Patience and slow :detecting:pays of for you.
Congrats on the nice gold:thumbup:

Gene, you taught me something again "I always dig every sound that is not a null". I am about to head south again in Jan. for two months and will try your technique. I gather you still dig even if they sound like bottle caps and pull tabs?

That's a beauty.

Your story reminds me of a story Ron Houghton told me. I lost track of Ron but he was great with a detector. He always found twice as much as I did on a hunt. Don't know how, but he did.

Ron used to hunt Padre island off of Texas. I think the island has long been closed down to detectorists what with the archaeologists complaining and what not.

Anyhow he was on a hot section of beach on Padre island with a competitor. Ron went through the section at 80 mph but with an ulterior motive. He saw that the competitor would always stay a little ahead of him so he pushed him hard. Then when the time was right he strolled back to the beginning of the section and hunted it the right way. Ron had lots of old, old coins.

If anybody knows Ron or where he's at I'd like to make contact with him again. The last I heard he was living in Santa Ana, CA.

nice find- just let them people go ahead getting some of the trash outa the way-it makes your job easier.I always say its not a race -slow down and enjoy yourself

Gerry, Short answer, YES. I pulled a very nice 18K/ diamond ring ($800-1000) last week that sounded like a messed up bottle cap. Thin and scratchy. Using my Xcal II.

Hi gene mate what i do is when these grand prix detectorists race up in front of me i just tag along real slow ,so what i did one time was i took a couple of real gems with me and when the racer and his missus started zig zagging in front of me i would dig a hole and pull out my planted ring and yell out to the to come see what they had missed ,it only took a couple of plants to get rid of them.:ausflag::rofl::rofl:

Thoes guys kill me. Its like a race. 10 inches of the ground and swinging like they have lost there minds. Good for you Bud, way to go
