Good luck with your choice as there are so many new machines about and they all perform at about the same level in reality and will all get you the same number of finds if you learn them well........I'm sticking with my Sovereign gt until I see a machine comes out that will genuinely increase my finds rate.

Under a grand, go with the Legend with extra coils. Over a grand and for submerging completely in salt water the Excalibur is still hard to beat. There has been some leaking issues with the Manticore.

I'm in the same boat - too a long break from detecting. I purchased an equinox 800 in December, I like it, but the grass is always greener... I have an old excal ii that I would like to fix, but not sure if it's worth it.

I had the Excal 2..I was nuts for selling..I was so stuck on screens..

I've used my V3 (I Download it later to a V3i) and a second V3i, and have no complaints about them at all. I recently bought a Equinox 900 and I must say that it's quite good in my opinion.
