I'm getting the "Digger"!!!

I've been hunting some old farmsteads lately (including mine) which hold alot of trash (nails, tabs, lots of iron junk, etc.) with my LF & MF 9" concentrics & am finding some clad & the occasional cool relic but not much in old silver or copper. So at work all the employees received a bonus check which was unexpected & so I figured why not buy a coil for those really trashy grounds that I detect. I read alot on this forum about the "Digger" & ordered it on Monday-it should be here Thursday just in time for this weekend's hunt. We've been receiving rain in Wisc. on a daily basis for the better part of a week & this weekend looks to be somewhat dry.....YAHOO!!!!!
Question.....should I be doing anything different as far as setup is concerned with this coil versus the 9" concentrics? I really like using GB tracking in AM mode with multiple tones & use this setting almost always now. I never use a discrimination pattern ether because I want to get my ears tuned to all the various tones. Lots to be learned & thanks everyone for the great post.......Al

I am so happy for you and so freaking jealous. Someday I will get the " Digger " coil but not in the foreseeable future. Have fun and keep us posted on your success.

Thanks Sidewinder.....I usually don't have alot of money to toss around so this bonus was a real blessing & I hope you get your "Digger" soon.....yes,I'll keep you guys posted.

Be prepared for a whole new level of detecting once you get the hang of the coil. I've found more notable coins in such a short period of time with the digger coil than any other coil that I own. So far, every place that I'd found silver at with any of my other coils, I went back to with the digger and found another silver. Actually all but one place so far.

Have fun!

You're really going to like that coil.

We have a little park in town near the bank, and over the years it's been absolutely plundered. I took the Digger there Monday for a quick hunt after conducting business at the bank, and sure 'nuff I found a '63 Rosie within 5yds of a tot-lot that you know has been regularly cleaned out.

Just go slow. It's the hardest thing to do with a little coil.

Hi Old longhair....when you found that Rosie what did you get for a signal? I'm imagining sense the park was so looked over that it wasn't a strong repeatable signal. Was it more of a whisper or narrow type of high tone? And was it deep where others would have missed it? Just trying to get a handle on finding old coins.....thanks.....Al

It wasn't deep, and the 3kHz coil made it scream just like the 11 other dimes that I dug that hunt. I think that between being a small DD and the low frequency I was able to sort them out of the junk better than those before me.
