im going to use aquarium silicone for my coil

do you think this will work better then regular silicone im tired of cleaning out my coil cover. should i put the cilicone in my coil cover first and then install it to my coil or how should i do it im looking for a good seal so water or dirt cant get in.

HH

Though I have never tried it I would think sealing the seam would be best. Is there that big of an advantage in sealing a coil? I rarely clean the interior of my coil am I missing something?

bill;
When you are beach and water hunting there can be a build up of black sand (ferrite) that can drive the detector crazy.
I have my excalibur cover siliconed on and have not had any problem.
I recently found a flowable silicon. It flows into narrow openings like the seam with the cover.

Whatever you do, don't permanently glue your coil cover onto your coil, unless later on down the road you would want to buy a new coil. I personally have gone through 1 coil cover already (wore a hole right through the back part of the cover) and would strongly advise that if you do seal it, make sure you can still replace it later on down the road by using some type of silicone. Just make sure that it doesn't have a bad reaction to the type of plastics used by mine lab because if something like that happened, it probably would eat a hole into the coil and coil cover. So be careful and good luck.

You should be taking your cover off to clean the inside out of dirt and grass. If you haven't been doing this, then your detector hasn't been running at full performance like you would want it to be. Leaving the dirt inside the cover makes the detector become erratic and sometimes false on you. If you clean it, it will perform like a new machine. You will get better response,signals,and detection depth. One of the club members was having problems with falsing and would not get the depth that he was usually getting when he first got the machine. Now he cleans it out on a regular basis due to improved performance. So clean it out or leave the deep signals behind, it's up to you.
