I'm probley gonna regret posting this......

Why doesn't some company rent MD's ? ? ? You could make a mint!! !! !! Think about it +$100 or so for a month......Sure would beat buying a $700 unit and decide a month later you don't really like it? Now watch somebody take my idea and make a killin'!! lol.

R-n-R you front the money and open a chain store here in Texas and I'll manage it for you. How does that sound?

I own and operate a hobby shop and we used to carry metal detectors. I offered the Ace 250 for rent and it did ok. We have a state park with beaches that people like to detect so visitors to the beach would sometimes rent. A few times we had people rent to look for a lost item. The most memorable was someone from the local national guard station needing to find some keys they lost in the snow somewhere on base. The keys were borrowed from an officer and there were several keys to sensitive areas that were lost. I wasnt there when the detector was returned so I dont know if they found them or not.

To rent, I would get a photo ID like a drivers license and copy the info off of it. I would also get a valid credit card and swipe it in my system but put the payment on hold. Swiping it confirmed that the card was valid and the funds were available. I did this so that if they decided not to bring the detector back within a week, they would be billed for the item at regular retail pricing. They signed a rental agreement that stated this. I never had one that didnt make it back though.

Places in Australia do rent detectors...they are usually located near goldfields, but there are other stores in the larger cities where you can rent a detector....its a great idea, and, as you said, you can see if you like detecting before you buy.. HH Sapper

I did not know that! I think it would be an interesting idea to do even online. Try before you buy, might kill the market!!
