IM Tones ?

According to the manual , there are two ways to hear ferrous tones- one is to set the tone from cond. to ferr. The other is to set IM to -16. If you do that do you have ferr. tone in IM and cond. tone in pattern? If that is true, What happens to the tone in IM -12, does it go back to cond.? Or am I just totally confused??? John

That section is clear about IM-16 and ferrous tones. If ferrous tones are selected then we have ferrous tones for any IM setting. However, since ferrous is considered to be from IM0 to IM-16 if we have the left of the screen black then we are not going to hear the real low tones for iron.

Ferrous tones present tones based on ferrous readings on the horizontal axis of the screen. Conductive tones present tones based on the conductive readings on the vertical axis of the screen. So, it is one or the other but not both. If the left side of the screen is black then in theory we are only hearing non-ferrous target sounds. However, the horizontal axis is actually based on ferrous content with the lowest content being the far right and highest content far left. We hear the greater range of tones if the left side of the screen is clear.

Cody, If I understand you It is possible to have ferr. tones in IM, if set at -16 and when switching back to smartfind pattern, you will have the conductive tone , unless you change it manually in tone select. Are you also saying that if IM is set at say -12, you have the same tones as IM-16, only a narrower rage of tones because you lose the ones blacked out on the left? Thanks-John

What we have to do is go to the Menu and select which tones we want, Conductive or Ferrous. We then have ferrous or conductive all the time unless we go back to the menu and switch again. In the preset coins conductive is selected so we always have conductive no matter which screen we use. If we go to the menu then we can select Ferrous and then we have ferrous sounds in all screens.
