I'm with ya Elson... Christmas has become...

this grotesque abomination of a materialistic and commercialized greed fest... When I was a kid, which by the way wasn't even that long ago, Christmas was about being with family and recognizing it's connection to Christ... Gifts were modest and secondary if at all... I hate what it has become and would rather not celebrate it at all, than celebrate what it has become.... Each year that goes by I hope for a truer meaning and each year I'm disappointed... Frankly, I look forward to Dec. 26th when the bullsh!t ends... I'm not a very religious man, but a very spiritual one... That being said, I can and do appreciate the meaning of Christmas... So, from me to you and all my friends on this forum, I wish you a HAPPY AND MERRY OLD FASHIONED CHRISTMAS... Hopefully filled with love and emotion instead of an opulence of gifts you probably don't want or need. V-man

And I can't do anything about it.When I was a kid Christ was first all day.We did eat good and had our gift that evening ( apple and orange and candy Mom made.We were poor) Today it's how much can they buy.We never had a Black Friday unless we did something we shouldn't did and Daddy seen us do it.My God let's bring back Christ in Christmas.Merry Christmas to you and your family V-Man

Life is good

Yes, Christmas has become very commercialized, with shopping starting around Halloween this year, but, isn't it still up to us, each one, individually, as to how we celebrate? I still remember the old fashioned Christmas, where we went to Church Services on Christmas Eve, but I still see many Churches holding services, with people still attending and I'm sure they would welcome all. We have the opportunity to set examples, but do we do it? I still celebrate with my family on Christmas day with a big meal and though I may not make it Religious, I still enjoy it. If we want an old fashioned Christmas, we can still have it. It's up to us, how we do it. Turn off the TV and find some Christmas music on the radio. Sing carols with the family. Try caroling around the neighborhood but most of all remember Christmas for what it was, is. and still can be. Just my humble opinion. As for me, MERRY CHRISTMAS to all of my Forum Friends.

No flack from me Rusty... But, the problem while simple on the surface, is one of time and society... That is, this change has come over many years of commercialization and it's effect on society towards Christmas (heck, they want to ban any reference to religion at all.)... So, the holiday has become one of commercializing and marketing to the "wants" and "keeping up with the Jone's"... Try telling a kid today that Christmas isn't about getting something, when they are inundated with commercials and advertisements all geared to what they "want" for Christmas... It was a quite transformation over many years... Sadly in the wrong direction... Good for the economy, but bad for the Soul...

what yer lookin directly at.

" Each year that goes by I hope for a truer meaning and each year I'm disappointed..."

Looks to me V-man that each year you ARE seein it's truer meaning and it's growin truer each year right inside yer own heart.
It's only a materialistic time of the year of we allow it to be.
For those of us truely aware of it's real meaning, the birth and coming of our Saviour, Jesus the Christ,
it can mean no more than that.
Take that dissapointment of yours and turn it into joy
in prayer for those that ' jist don't git it' .
Knowin that He hears our prayers can bring only joy.

MERRY CHRISTMAS to ya and yer family V-man.
