Impact Testers Not Interested?? (True Test For Me)

I just sold one of my high end machines freeing up plenty of cash for the Impact should one of the Testers that received a test machine perform and post the test i described. If none are interested Nokta i would make you a deal that if your machine can pass my simple test i will pay 100 dollars more than your dealers are asking for the machine, if it does not pass i would also pay shipping costs to send one back to where ever it was shipped to me from.

It is a very simple test,,, take a container(plastic of course) like you would buy from Walmart called a storage container and put clean dirt in it. Bury a silver quarter say 4 inches deep, fill up the hole 2 inches, then place one rusty nail at least 3 inches long, at both edges of the quarter 180 degrees from other, then fill the hole in.
All i need to see is if the detector will grunt on the nails and give a non iron tone on the quarter in the same pass. TID does not have to be perfect for the quarter. A video clip would be sufficient. Thanks in advance if any testers decide to perform the test or If Nokta would take me up on my offer.
 
What you are looking for is called separation. There are a few machines out there that can pass this test. When I get my Impact, I will post a video.
 
That may be a nice test but how many times does that happen in the real world...Also the dirt in the container once disturbed changes..The only real way is to have test garden that has not been dug for at least a year..even if the impact doesn't past your test I'm sure there are other things that happen in the dirt that it would pass and maybe your top machines won't. One detector can't do everything but the impact has a lot of was to change settings and has some nice programs...best of luck

That is exactly what i thought but i found out differently when i performed both tests. I took 2x4 blocks and scooted them up to the edge of a silver quarter then placed two rusty nails from my digs on top of folded cardboard till nails were approx 2.5 inches above quarter and scooted the heads of nails right to the edge of the boards which were touching the quarter edges. Then i took some of my soil with a shovel and put in a container from walmart , checked in all metal for any signal at all. With the container on top of a pvc platform i made so it is off the ground. Then i dug a hole and put the quarter at 4 inches, then i came up 2 inches and pushed the two rusty nails sideways into the soil until the heads were even with both edges of quarter , 180 degrees from each other. Then put just a bit of soil on top of nails so that they were barely covered with some soil.

I have 3 $400 dollar machines that pass with ease, one that squeaks by, and one high end that is supreme over all of the ones that passed. All other machines i have tried failed. Actually in air most failed , but in the dirt i did get far superior results... was i impressed,,,, dang right i was!
 
I'd say it's mostly down to matching coil to the conditions, plenty of good and fast cheap detectors about that would cover most scenarios with the right coil.

Do you run in to this particular scenario in the field a lot? I'm sure certain machines can pass your test but suck at other things and visa-versa. What if the Impact (or any other machine) can pass your test but sucks at everything else? Do you buy it anyway? Seems like a strange way to determine whether or not you are going to buy a machine IMO. Good luck.

no stranger than a nail board test and that's all they are are tests they prove nothing to me what proves it for me is wild hunting and if a detector finds stuff I keep it if its not an upgrade for what I want it for it goes...

couple on my list will be going soon...

No it is not a test i do to decide whether to buy a detector or not. It is a test i do to see how good a machine can separate in conditions i hunt in. And yes i do encounter conditions where good targets are below lots of nails. Example lets take a house built around 1900 and i am hunting it today. Lets say the average roof lasted 15 years, that would mean a new roof was applied 7.8 times until the present. Now lets say that only every other time they completely strip the roof and put shingles back on the wood, that would be close to 4 times that hundreds of nails hit the ground all around the house. Anything lost between those roofing jobs would be in between layers of nails. Not to mention if a house had been on the particular lot prior to 1900 and was torn down. If you run a detector in most places i hunt and have not discriminated out iron, it sounds like a machine gun firing as you sweep the coil. Or run with iron audio on and no disc.

As amberjack says , if a detector is not an upgrade over what i have , no need to buy it ...... I do think the Impact might have potential from what i have seen and heard, but all my machines that cannot pass this separation test are going. Just sold today what might be considered by the metal detecting community the best machine there is shipped out today and sold two coils that went with it to other people. Have owned 3 Nokta/Makro machines and still own one.

I promise you if it can pass my test , it will not suck at everything else lol!

Trashfinder, are you testing with only concentric coils?

Why not name the machines and coils that both passed and failed your test?
 
No, not just concentric coils. The reason i do not list is because this is Nokta's forum and i am not trying to convince others to buy a machine or not too. I am interested in the Impact and am considering buying it. I am not a tester for any brand and have never received a machine for testing. I have spent over $25,000 buying and selling and testing detectors over the last few years for my own benefit and knowledge. Besides the new machines like Impact and others that are anticipated later this year i have owned about all of them. Since Nokta had so many testers with test machines why not have one of them perform the test and save me 900 dollars and then having to sell another used machine? Makes good sense to me, at least money wise.

I'm not sure about others, but it doesn't really make sense to me.

If you are being honest and truly have spent over $25,000 buying/testing/reselling detectors over the last couple years, why wouldn't you buy, test, resell (if needed) the Impact for a mere $850?

If you think it's sub par you can simply sell it. You've stated you've resold many other machines in the past, so that's not an issue for you.

Then post videos of all of the tests you personally performed on it.
 
It's all good. To each their own. I'm with AJ on this one and with you as well TF. I buy them and give them a go in my ground and my sites. If the machine and I mesh well I keep them around. If not, down the road they go. Some do things better than others... All have their strengths. The biggest thing, as I said, is if the machine and I get along or not. I have two Nokta machines...Soon to be three with the coming of the Impact next week.....I get along with them. They work well in my conditions and with my brain patterns if that makes any sense. I could not get along with the G2+ for example. I didn't mesh with it for some reason. A lot of guys really like it and it works for them. So, as AJ said, I don't care about any tests... I have to swing it and see if we get along or not. It's like dating.
I believe we are all going to miss stuff due to colocated iron or whatever.... Regardless of the machine. That's just the way it is. That's why a site is truly never hunted out. But it's fun as hell trying different machines as they come out if for no other reason than we can. F the tests.

I was at a site like this today with my Fisher F70. I don't disc out iron as I like hear what's going on in the ground, but like you said, it sounds like a machine gun going off. I don't know if I'm missing anything or not, but found two wheaties in among the iron. I would like to know the three $400 machines that pass this test...maybe you can PM me. I do know my F70 will pass a similar test in the air. I can put a 2x4 on the ground, set a silver quarter on it and then put two small pieces of 2x4 on either side of the quarter with a rusty nail on the top of the edge of them. So, two rusty nails 1.5" above the quarter on wither side less than an inch away laterally. Never tried it in the ground or directly above the quarter. I wonder if any machine will pick up the quarter if two rusty nails are directly above it with, say, 2" of soil in between?
 
This is where adjustable iron audio is a huge benefit, as well as adjustable tone break.

I've found the Racer2, especially for the inexpensive entry point, is a great machine for hunting sea of nail/iron infested sites. I don't disc anything, but having the ability to lower the volume on the iron so the non-ferrous targets stand out has increased my keepers quite a bit over my F75. Don't get me wrong, the F75 is darn good machine, but my Racer just does such a better job at these sites. I think the Impact with take it to the next level with multiple frequencies to choose from and the additional search modes. I'll be putting it to the test on an end of the month detecting trip to some familiar, and some not so familiar haunts, one is particularly challenging as not only is it full of iron, but you also have heavy alkali soil conditions to deal with. Both my Racer2 and F75 were severely challenged by this obstacle, which I hope the Impact will overcome.

I can make some videos but i do not think it is really appropriate to post them here in the Nokta forum. Yes i have spent that much and the point is why spend 999, when i now have one high end detector and 3 mid priced detectors that will do what i need. There could be other nice features that i could use with the Impact but i do not need it if it will not perform as well or better than what i have already determined to work. Also with so many testers out there with machines why wont they perform the test? I had to buy other manufactures because unlike Nokta they did not put lots of machines out for public testing. It really is not a hard concept to grasp of why i am asking testers who have the machines out there to test them? Testers = testing? or maybe not?
 
doesn't look like your going to get much joy does it :sadwalk: you know what you need and that's all that matters in my book, the problem is getting someone else to do something for us that benefits them zero , but you never know there might be some kind soul out there stranger things have happened :biggrin:
