Improper use of a Sovereign :surprised:

I need to get this off chest. I was at the Buckeye Hunt this past weekend and I saw a guy that said he was Ron from some cold place.
I spoke to him as to how he should use a 1235 X Fisher. Well after 2 hunts he said that would use the Sov. because he said he THOUGHT
he would do much better. The next hunt had 500 more silver dimes, well its then he found 3 more dimes. He didn't have shame for what
he had done. I tried to help him but being rather BULL HEADED he continued to abuse the SOV. I am having trouble sleeping I just cannot
get the sight of him abusing the SOV.out of my mind. If you know this so called Ron guy please help me get some help for him.

im not sure what exactly you mean.
help me understand what abuse you are referring to.
thanks

Wrong tool for the job the SOV is to slow on the signal pickup. Not as easy to pinpoint
as a 1235. The 35 is one of the best hunt machines for competition hunts. I do know my way around
a comp. hunt and have I been doing this for 30+ years. I come from a relic hunting angle like low and slow.
I know when your using the wrong toll for the job.

Well I also would have "Abused" my Sovereign GT had I been there. Especially since it is the only machine I own and I abuse it regularly. I have been know to abuse it for up to ten hours in the same day. I am so abusive.

Gary, could be right, but the user was off not the Sovereign. My first round was with the 1235X, three users getting the best token match.Marion,Kevin and myself .This was the first use of the 1235X the target was found fast and the Garrett pin pointer wasn't even used. The three of us found our tokens fast but this was a kick off hunt and tokens were trade from each group to get the best count only one group won and our color chosen didn't have a high number 1 out of five.Trading our tokens in we each ended up with a silver dime. The 2nd hunt was where I had high hopes for the 1235X last year with the Sovereign my count in this same field was 20 dimes and a couple of tokens. This year at the start I had problems pinpointing my first couple of targets,by the time things fell into place targets where getting harder to find I was impressed how hard the 1235X hit on the targets. This hunt ended with 13 dimes and three tokens, compared with other hunters in my group Kevin 19 dimes,Gene 7 dimes,Ray DFX user 9 dimes and Marion another 1235X user same as amount 13 dimes and 3 tokens.Ray was telling me that Loyd was in the 30s and I think your number were in the 30s also.At this point I knew my skills with the 1235X needed improvement, but it is a great detector and I'll do better in the Big Silver round. The big silver round still with the 1235X I always try to start in the middle rather than an end I think you were on the opposite side.Don Hayes said turn to your side and look at your fellow competitor to see if there was a flag on their badge.I laughed and made a comment to Dianne and said I guess we are legal and hoped no one got turned in,by the way your wife is a great hunter.Anyway the big silver hunt started and off using the 1235X,LOL,first 25 yards in the field and no targets they were very scattered or thin in the lane I picked, very fast hunt 10 minutes and this field was picked bone dry.At the end of this hunt 3 quarters and 4 halves,Kevin 11 quarters,Gene 3 quarters 1 half, Ray not sure what he had but I had a couple more coins. After this hunt we talked and I explained I had more confidence in the Sovereign and was going to switch to this unit.Your suggestion stay with the 1235X which could have been a better strategy, last year with the Sovereign I pulled 27 dimes out of this hunt.I explained that if the Sovereign could pull 30 dimes from the next hunt this would confirm that the Sovereign worked better. With this dime hunt I had more confidence with the Sovereign for me it hits harder and with the 800 coil and can have a good sweep speed. But the user not the Sovereign stumbled on this search I ended up with 18 dimes,Kevin 27,Gene 12,Ray 15 again I think Loyd was 37 and you had a high number also.Even though I didn't reach my number I decided to stay with the Sovereign on Sundays hunt.Your comment on the night hunt was interesting not many silver coins or tokens made this hunt worth while the effort and after the hunt you were right. For this hunt I used the 1235X with the five inch coil,no lights allowed very difficult to pinpoint targets. My brother Kevin didn't bring his digger but he used a 3inch coil on his 1235X.During the hunt the 5 inch coil worked best for this event but it was very difficult to recover your target.I could feel the coin lay on top of the target and drop on into my pouch and go on to the next, but a couple took up time and were even buried. End results with this hunt 26 wheat's no tokens,Kevin 30 wheat's no tokens Loyd 22 wheat's no tokens Gene 7 wheat's 2 tokens,Ray I think around 15.IMHO this hunt was not really worth hunting you were correct.Sundays first hunt one the poker hand 5 man team,Marion out first got a 11 of hearts fast,I was out next with the Sovereign quick but the card was a 8 of hearts,Kevin back quick not a good card,Ray next came back with an Ace,My brother Gene inexperienced hunter LIL I think he is still there searching.Anyway they gave a prize for the worst hand we didn't even win that. Here's where the Sovereign abuse starts the woods hunt shot gun start a first for me,with hunters starting in the middle and front a good search path could be more difficult.I did stay with the search until the last minute made finds until the last minute.I felt confident with the Sovereign but again felt the user could have done better 19 dimes and two tickets,I think Dianne had 22 dimes and 2 raffle tickets,My brother Kevin 25 dimes,Ray DEX Big Foot coil 17 dimes. Before the last hunt had my tent and gear packed into the car had a good time but was ready to get back home.Last search of the Buckeye Hunt weekend Lots of dimes buried for this last hunt.More Sovereign abuse,my strategy woods side of the field,my start was in very thick tall grass should have checked the field out my goal 30 dimes,by the end of the search fell short 20 dimes the Sovereign worked great hit hard my recovery too slow,my Brother Kevin 27 dimes.Very nice weekend at the Buckeye Hunt met a lot of nice people.Very impressive with the skills of some of these hunters.Gary from VA very nice guy and family hope you and my brother Kevin get out for some hunts in Roanoke.LOL glad we found that screw driver.HH Ron

I tried a Sov at a comp beach hunt once and what killed it for me was the weight. I used it in all metal which gives you the quickest response but the weight got to me. I always liked the Tesoros or Shadows for the comp hunts but have read the 1235 fishers are a top machine for comps also.

Neil the 1235X is a great detector. My brother Kevin from VA uses his 1235 as much as his F75 for park hunts.HH Ron

Ron from some cold place wanted to use a different detector that put you in a tizzy. Why do you care? The Soverign is a superior machine for depth but not for a fast response time during forced hunts. He probably knew the Sov much better so he went with that. Asking your help with the other machine showed he did not know it. What is up with your need to be involved in what he does and state this in public? You paid a lot of undue attention to him. That is just weird.

imalookin2,My Sovereign is like a bird dog always up for the hunt.Last year at the same hunt the Elite was up a few bucks even after sign in fees and travel expenses.Luck is involved with seeded hunts and skill, down on both of these this year..LOL Gary did say he was going to post and they were usually brutal.I told Gary feel free no edits or deletes here.Gary is using a Sovereign with other detectors and has had some good results. The Sovereign is a great detector and with the 800 coil has a quick response. Thanks Ron

imalookin2
Have you completely lost your sense of humor? I love to kid folks and I have been like that forever.
Ron seems to have very thick skin so I let him have it. I really like my Sovereign it is deep and easy
to use, I am finding a lot of stuff that makes me happy, but. I am a tool user and I hate to see folks
using the wrong tool for the job. I have been going to competition for over 30 years and have learned
a lot of things to go faster. I will help anybody get better results as in telling Ron to use his 1235 fisher.
I like to have fun with everyone but I really want them to dig more good stuff. I use a 1235 in the hunts
I think it is best for the job. I would tell you the same thing to help you find more stuff. As to being
called weird just look in the mirror and you will see weird. The same thing that I see just not as good
looking LOLOLOLOLOLO.
Gary

Gary is a good guy,the problem with a post you can be totally wrong with the tone.I appreciate the advice and help at the Buckeye Hunt.Gary is a relic hunter also. Thanks Ron

I have a few folks on the forums that like to really give it to me from time to time & I tend to dish it out as well, it's part of the fun of the forums in my opinion. Shucks if I wasn't teased I would think that no one liked me anymore. I've always had a sense of humor and enjoy others that does.

SkiWhiz. I think you would have made a good submarine sailor. We spent a lot of time submerged doing mostly nothing. It got boring at times just being out there punching holes in the Ocean for weeks on end. So we found ways to amuse ourselves. Pulling jokes was one of those ways. If one had a thin skin they learned quickly to thicken it up a bit. Being good shipmates we did all we could to assist the individual with the thin skin by making sure that it got properly exercised from time to time. And Yes Revenge was sweet. HH

George I floated around above you and the same thing took place there.
I was one of the thin skinned people. It didn't take long for me to
get the needed thick shin. I am now a Major pain the butt. I am also
a Shellback so I am due all Respect of the title. I do love to pick
at folks a bit and the only ones that pick back are worthy of my
Time.
Thank you Thank you very much
Gary

Yeah Gary Us Old Retired Submariners forgive you folks that were skimmers since you werent properly educated in how to navigate. You had to be up there on the surface so you could see where you were going. We could submerge off Charleston and Surface in the Med. Now thats Navigating. LOL. Have a Great Day and HH.

George I think you may have breathed to many recycled farts. I was an Airedale and we got to enjoy real fresh air.
I am very glad to have been a top water sailor were you had at least chance to get off a sinking ship. And another
thing the I say again NO RECYCLED FARTS. :usan::cheers:
