In Iron, Omega 8000 as good/better than G2?

I have a G2 that does wonders in iron. I am a coin shooter 90% of the time, and was wondering if the Omega might be a better fit for me. Thanks in advance.

With the 5" coil the Omega is a killer in trash/iron and is a true coin hunting detector with its lower frequency. HH jim tn

Thanks Jim, I appreciate the response. I would love to compare the two side by side. It's hard to go wrong with Teknetics.

Thanks Bart. Best dealer on Findmall. You sold me the G2, now you may need to PM me an Omega 8000 price. I'm gettin the itch again!

Wow Bart........talk about a lay down sale...lol......just kidding. I know you'll take good care of Silverman. BTW......how is your boy doing with the Omega.....maybe you can post some of his finds.

To tell the truth I haven't been able to take him out much. Its been on the 103-112 range for 50 plus days now here. Neither of us want to get out in this. My younger 6 year old is in football and I help coach. Between my real job, being a dealer and coaching him my free time to detect is almost a negative #. Wont even mention wife wanting some attention too. ha ha

Hopefully after football we can get out. We already have 4 spots circled on our map to go hit. Just gotta find the time. He is excited as I am. We will for sure post!

"close" to the performance of the G2. That is, if you hunt in the 'd1' or 'd2' Tone ID function it will be better than using the 3 or 4 tone audio ID.

I wanted to work with the 5" DD coil exclusively last fall so the end of August, on the 30th and 31st, I mounted up the 5" on the Omega and used it at a few building tear-down sites near my place. I liked what it did in the iron junk.

Then I decided to leave it on the Omega for the entire month of September and use it for all of my coin hunting. I am mainly a "coin hunter" of the more varied type in that I like to hunt for coins, but that includes all smaller-size target such as trade tokens and silver and gold jewelry. Most of the time I look for renovation work, vacant lots where old buildings once stood, and similar places.

I hunt the fringes and overgrown parts of older parks, recreation sites, etc., etc. In town I'll hit the playgrounds for 'flash money' as well as good jewelry since I average 12 gold rings a year from the wood-chip and sand-filled playgrounds, alone.

Now, last year I took a fall off a ladder at work and was on-the-mend through July and August and was just starting to deal with the pain from four broken ribs, a severe concussion, a ruptured right eardrum and I hobble around anyway with my cane. Still, in September alone, I manged 895 coin hunting mainly some schools and parks (mostly 'lawn hunting') when I got away on a trip with some friends, or just trying to get back into moving as September began. Omega w/5" DD = 895 coins isn't bad, plus the 14 k diamond ring and over a dozen sterling silver items didn't hurt, either.

Today I could do better as the ribs have healed and in general I'm closer to what my normal would be. :( I like the Omega w/stock 10" Concentric coil, but the 5" DD coil staid on my spare lower rod because it was a great switch when I hit iron littered sites ... which I do, often.

When I started working on my field evaluation of the then new Teknetics G2, I picked mainly the junky sites I have within a short drive and I tried all coils on the G2. The stock 11" DD is 'OK' for more open sites or for the beach, but I really liked the 5" coils performance on the Omega and found it to be the better coil, for me, on the G2. I left it mounted on the G2 ever since then.

Now, back to your question because you already have a G2. if you can handle the G2 w/11" DD coil, and if you have the 5" DD already, then I would suggest you get the Omega and use it with the stock coil and the 5" DD coil;. keep the 5" on a spare lower rod and you can swap it onto either of those detectors in a hurry when needed.

I like the G2 for certain tasks, such as hitting high-trash sites. However, I also like the Omega w/5" for the same applications, and the Omega gives me better overall depth of detection than the G2, and the target ID and VDI and Coin Depth read-outs are all more useful (for me) using the Omega. I would say that, even though the two models are different in their processing a little bit, I feel the 5" coil performance on the Omega would be about as good, and possibly better, with the Omega since you are more inclined to coin hunt.

Biased opinions only. :)
