Hello all, After wanting a metal detector for some time now and having my eye on a white's MXT, I've just been loaned a GTAx 750 by a good friend. He bought it new and gave up on detecting rather quickly so it's brand new. I'm hoping there's some one here that can give me an unbiased comparison between the two. After only a few hours of use, I'm already hoping that the MXT is a better unit. However, I do plan to make the best of what I have right now. After all, a bird in the hand is worth two in the bush. I did make a find on the first day I used it. It was an alloy coin from a pool toy set, three feet from my pool and three inches down. I was elated and wanted to go dig more holes but had to go to work.

Thanx in advance,
Steve in Pennsylvania

From what I have read the 750 is a good machine. It wouldn't matter what detector you were loaned you will still need experience. People give up too soon with many detectors and brands. Set the 750 in coin mode and the sensitivity at half and dig repeatable beeps. Go to tot lots or sand volleyball courts and learn how to pinpoint where it's easy digging. Just because a hunter has a $1200 machine doesn't mean they will have success at coin/jewelry land hunting. Give the detector you have 100 hours before you trade or buy something else.

Detecting is 90% operator and 10% detector. A detector is only as good as the guy on the other end of it. Give the 750 some time and spend some hours with it and you may find you have no need for another brand. One thing is constant about detectors - they all find metal.

I used to think if only I had one of those new detectors would I really clean up. Well about fifty detectors later I discovered I do better with the less expensive detectors than with the expensive ones. Especially love the yeller feller.....Jack

Thanks again for the advice. My daughter and I just got back from a hunt and we did OK. Two sloid silvers and a g.i. joe figurine, More-over we had some fun.

Great finds and great quality time spent with your daughter I see.:twodetecting:
