IN prospecting / lost nugget

I've done a lot more prospecting this spring/summer than detecting and the experience is paying off. After ~20 years of occasional gold panning here in southern Indiana I'd put together maybe a third of gram cumulative. This year, though, I'm closing in on 2 grams since March!

Pic below (below pan) shows a good result from a couple hours of panning in the local state forest. Pic of the green pan shows the best little nuggest I've found so far -- I'm guessing it probably weighed 0.08-0.1g. I have to guess, however, because the little guy wasn't in my cons when I did a clean up and home! Talk about bummed out -- I figure it must have stuck in the pan I was using to collect cons when I dumped them into the coffee can I used to transport them home. I even took the Gold Kruzer out the next morning to the exact same spot and tried to find it, to no avail.

Nice collection of gold! It’s a shame your little nugget got lost. I know the feeling of losing a nice piece of gold. A few years back, I visited some friends at their campsite to do a “show & tell” of the gold I got that day. As we sat around the camp fire, I dumped my snuffer bottle (which held my gold) into my gold pan and tilted the pan slightly to show the thickness of several pieces. And wouldn’t you know it, my largest nugget from that day (1/2 gram) fell from the pan and into the fire. We all searched cautiously while the fire continued to burn but to no avail. I was offered a cold beer to wash away my sorrows but not before I put the rest of the gold safely back in the snuffer bottle. I haven’t been back to that campsite since that day. I suppose it could be found with a metal detector as am sure it’s buried in the gravel and ash. Oh well, live and learn I guess.

Half gram.
I'd be going back with my detector.
Or dig the whole area up.
Put it in buckets.
Take it home and pan it all.
Who knows. Maybe you'll find more gold.
