Indian Fattys?

Idaho PRB

Member
Pardon my ignorance. When referring to Indian Head Cents, what is a "Fatty"? Thanks

Its to do with the thickness of the coin.

they are about as thick as a nickle.... the first indian ive ever found was a fatty and i havent found another fat one since... i think they may have a different composition like they might have bronze in them....

Like goodmore said, Fatties - From 1859 to 1863, they were struck in copper-nickel. Some of the 1864's were copper nickel also.

In 1864 to 1909, they were composed of bronze.

I have been hunting for about 14 years and only frond one that was fat the others all have been reg. I though it was a nickle at first.
