Infinium question

therover

Well-known member
Hello all,

I am in the market for a PI. I was wondering if anyone here has experience with the Infinium and it's sensitivity to gold jewelry. I will be hunting the NJ beaches, and there are several PI's I am looking at. One of my quesitions, if anyone knows, is what is the frequency ( not sure if I am using the correct terminology) of the detector. What I mean is, I was reading that lower uS ( like 15uS or 10Us) is more sensitive to gold. I know the Whites PI is at 15 and the HeadHunter PI has an adjustable from 15-50, while the Eric Foster Goldquest ( or whatever the name is ) has 10. They are a little out of my price range and I want a waterproof unit so I think it's between the Infinium, Whites or HH.

Any help or feedback would be appreciated.

Thanks and may all your hunts be safe and fun ( hey...they can't ALL be profitable !)

JC

the Infinium and others that I'm still waiting on. The latter being just what delay it uses. I've seen one being used for relic hunting & prospecting and it did a fine job in both fields. I've got a test nugget here that weighs about 3 grains and it will pick it up with the stock coil. It has to be swung low (<1") and slow, but it will pick it up. This is indoors, in the city, on a concrete floor. It's a very deep & sensitive PI that gets a lot of bad lip from supporters of othe brands. There are 2 things I don't like, however. These are: 1) The sometimes interminably long & drawn out secondary tone. 2) The iron check feature is not very well thought out. It should hsve been a momentary switch instead. Other than that, what other PI dtector can offer all the features of the Infinium at the price it's going for? Remember, Steve Hershbach was using it for nuggethunting in Alaska (I have his original Infinium). It's a lot harder (in many respects) to hunt for nuggets than for jewellry. Also, you can dig only hi-lo tones and leave a lot of trash (iron & otherwise) in the ground. This includes a lot of deep/large iron that will fool a VLF. It also can perform some disc. functions by lengthening the delay. ...Willy.
