Infinuim?

I just picked up a Garrett Infinium and No actually nothing about them. First time with any PI detector. It has the stock 14" DD coil on it. I have read elsewhere that the 14" DD is Not a good coil for smaller gold. Seems most folks like the 8" concentric. So what is the consensus of you that have used both? Also, how does the Infinium stack up as a nugget hunter? Any tips, tricks, help and info appreciated. Trying to decide whether i even want to keep it or not. Thanks

I have and used the Infinium for many years with the 14" coil in the summer for fresh drops in the water, 8" coil in the winter water among the rocks.
Both in New England salt waters. Each has its place in my collection and use. I have gone to the ATX because of the advanced features. However, I
still use the Infinium. Never tried nuggets, and have found small chains, usually with a pendant on them. The infinium really loves the nickles and gold.
Its Hi-lo Lo-hi tones is a big aid especially in the winter rock where it is easy to leave the dimes and silver in lew of gold.Still it will make a digger out of you.
The only reason I would off the Infinium is if I was going to replace it with the ATX and could not afford to keep both.
Every detector / coil combination has its own niche. No one detector can do it all. One must consider his environmental and desired target objective.
As with every detector you have to spend time with it and learn what it is telling you. You do this and it will reward you with endless enjoyment.

I have used both. The 8" coil definitely is more sensitive to tiny targets, and of course gold, as the the Infinium is tweaked to respond to gold. I have also used the large 10" x 14" DD and mono. I stuck with the 10" x 14" mono, so as to NOT be so sensitive to all the tiny stuff I encounter. The 3" x 7" is great for searching around rocks. The 8" coil would be my recommendation, as it has great sensitivity to tiny gold, yet gets great depth. Also note how increasing the threshold also increases the depth.

Below is an air test I did several years ago. As you can see......there is not very much loss of depth between the large 10"

Thank you John. Good info. I think i need to find an 8" mono coil.
