Info about how to save gas - from an e-mail I got today

the gas vapor thing has already been debunked. I believe the Saudia Arabia and Argentina oil purchases have been debunked also. After the first few inches of soil the ground temperature is minimally affected by atmospheric temperature. The more gasoline in your tank the less gas mileage you will get because your car weighs more. You're burning more gas hauling around the gas to get around. Having your car in tune, wheels aligned, tire pressure correct, no pedal to the metal starts and stops will do more for you than any of the supposed advice in the e-mail. Taking your time to get up to speed and taking your foot off the gas pedal and coasting, WILL DRIVE THE OTHER DRIVERS NUTS THOUGH, will improve your mileage. At these prices these tips won't make a significant dent but will help. Purchasing less goods from China would help. The less demand for their goods the less demand for oil and the price goes down. Their factories and transportation are less efficient They transport things here by ship which requires oil. Americans are shooting themselves in the foot by buying foreign goods.

One of the things that help us get better gas mileage is when on a downhill slope with a stop sign at the end of the road...we have one place we pass many times a day where on road Ts into another. We don't 'drive' with our foot on the gas to drive up to the stop sign. We are already going downhill..we let momentum take us there...and we are talking about a quarter mile stretch. Why push more gas through the engine to go downhill.

We do that on expressway stretches too. If it is downhill, let the vehicle weight pull us downhill. We also travel about 10 mph under the 70mph max...even though others want to travel 80 we are still saving more gas than they are...so we are slower - they can go around...there are 2 lanes in the same direction and we ride in the right almost always.

Our van generally gets about 22 mpg...less in the city. But I have seen Sherry on many occassions pull out 26 - almost 27 miles per gal. I have seen her be sucked along behind a semi...riding the wave so to speak...dangerous but sure saved us gas.

We don't do jackrabbit starts. We don't try to prove our vehicle is faster than someone else who wants to prove something. In reality, those who go faster do not significant;y get to the same location more than a few minutes earlier than those who drive 5 to 10 miles slower. Is a couple minutes worth the extra gas? or the risk of a higher speed accident? But there are those who have to 'be there first' to prove something in their own heads,

Just my thoughts. I agree with you Paul.

Thanks Paul for your info! Phillips 66 used to be Citgo and still is the gas from Chevez in Argentina...a dictator who hates America and doesn't make any bones about it! If I'm wrong about Phillips 66 gas please let me know!? I use the stations close to my driving while shopping and etc. and to drive out of my way to find one of the others would be using gas that I don't need to use!

I agree with you about buying China's and other foreign countries goods, which have inflated prices to what the companies here pay for them is ruining our nation, and I tried to tell them back in the 60's about the imports putting Americans out of business.....................but they wanted cheaper priced goods.................even if they fell apart or caused more illnesses; therefore most people got what they wanted and are paying the price now for it!

But it is getting to where you cannot find American made goods and so the only way to have them is to buy foreign made! I would pay higher prices for USA made and do without if I couldn't afford the prices! Now adays like the commercials say and the signs in the store say: I just gotta have it! Bologna, no one needs all that junk!!!!

God Bless!

I agree with you also, Pete! When I go shopping or doing errands, I try to do them while out and usually drive about 5 miles in a circle to get everything needed without making extra trips.............................Get awfully fired doing that though........making all those trips is hard on an older person with COPD! But saves money on gasoline! :)

God Bless!

An incredibly high percentage of them are basically bogus and the rest half-truths. Every single one of these things play on our emotions. We WANT them to be true :)

This particular one is a 50 / 50 at best. Everyone should check out their email forwards, before they send them, out at Snopes.com. Simply do a search for the key words in the email. Very rarely has one been so new, it wasn't listed. I've received some that were over 10 years old and received countless times.

Sorry everyone. I hope I didn't cause anyone undue headaches. Gas is going up again Friday 8 more cents a gallon. I guess the e-mail pushed the right buttons for me. I know better. Hard to control the emotions. One thing that is true for sure here in Burlington. They are only letting people buy 2 bags (not more) of rice at the grocery stores in town (rationing?). The reason (so we are being told) - is the high cost of fuel to deliver the food on trucks.

More BOGUS excuses to get people to pay more for groceries. The warehouse out back is still fully stocked. Use one crises to cause another - to justify stealing and keep feeding the greedy. Last week it cost me at least 30 bucks more for the same old junk I always get. Nothing special. I pretty much always buy the same stuff every two weeks. There is no excuse for this greed. They have got us backed into a corner that we can't do anything about.

Time to start growing a garden. Get some chickens. Maybe a hog or two. If I still lived in the country, that's what I would be doing.

Whether there was hype or not a very good point was made from this thread. We should try and buy from companies that aren't buying oil from nations that would love to hurt or kill us. During the first Gulf war the Gideons printed 145,000 special New Testament bibles for the troops. They had a camoflauge cover. A big problem developed when the Saudi's realized these Bibles were in their country. It is against the law in Saudi Arabia to "practice" Christianity and if caught you could be punished by death. Here in America Mosques are being built in almost every city, we would be killed if we built a "church" in most parts of the Middle East. Pray for the Christian missionaries as a lot of people don't really understand how dangerous their mission truly is! Buy American and try and keep our money here. It is difficult with so many items being imported and it does take an effort to try and buy American but even if you change just a few purchases it's a start. For anyone here in NY that is not aware, RED APPLE or "Quik Fill" gas stations are strictly American Oil only. Whether everthing in the original post is accurate or not it has served a great purpose to provoke us all to think about what changes we can make as individuals! Thank you, Tim
