Hello all, first post. I'm about to retire as a Paramedic and wish to get back into the hobby. From what I read the XT70 is one of the best all around machines for the money. Is this true. I live in NC so there is gold, coins and relic hunting here. Also I am looking for a XT 70 if someone has one for sale. Thanks
 
I like mine a lot. The more I use it the easier it is to understand what the sounds are saying. Recommend you visit the FAQFAQ section. More information there then you can digest in a couple of months. Welcome. HH.
 
In my opinion The X70 is a great all-around performer...user friendly, good depth and light in weight. I'm sure some others will give their thoughts as well.
 
Thanks for the replies. I like the idea of having 3 separate frequencies for specialized detecting. In the early 90's I used Garrett Master Hunter 7's. Still have them and they still work but.....just would like something newer. Kellyco seems to have a pretty good deal on the detectors for a little less than 700 with "extras" and a 4 year warranty. I was looking at the DFX but didn't seem to be a better machine for what I wanted to do. Not sure though, that's why I'm asking the "experts" on this forum. Old home sites are my favorite spots but, lots of old gold mines here and surrounding counties. I'm not far from Reeds Gold Mine (where gold was first discovered in the US). Hundreds of mines here. Just can't afford all different type of detectors so I just want one good all around machine. Again, thanks
 
Ah, then the XT-70 is perfect for your purposes. Its lighter and actually has coils designed to look for small gold. You'll want to get a 6" HF DD coil ASAP after getting the detector. Its a great waterproof coil that can be used in small spaces to hunt out flour gold. A lot of Minelab's info concerning this detector talks about searching out gold in the gold fields of Australia, so it has HF coils (18.75 kHz) as options to use with searching for gold. My Dad has a DFX that I've played with some and the XT-70 is definitely an easier machine to learn and use. I have an MXT as well as my XT-70 and while the MXT is a good machine I would still recommend the XT-70 over it for gold hunting.
 
Welcome to the site! I live in Burlington NC so I am not to far from you. The X-Terra is a sweet machine and will do you right. If you are gold hunting it does have a prospecting mode to it also. I really think you will enjoy the X-Terra, I know I do, Beale.
 
Hi,

The X70 would be an excellent choice for you because you can do Gold prospecting, beach and coin all with the same detector, just change the coil. What I do here (Florida) is switch out to the high frequency (18.75 DD) coil and go back over the beaches and it will find some chains and necklaces that the coins detectors cant find because they are too small. Very Versatile and very affordable all around detector. I am sure that you will be very happy with it.
 
Thanks All for the valuable information. It sounds as though I have made a good choice. As I said you guys are the "experts" and I am again a rookie. My plan is to order a new detector from Kellyco on Friday. It comes with a 4 year warranty that way and, I know what I'm getting. Oh and by the way.....when I get rich and famous I will talk with all of you. (ha ha). Look for me at the races in Charlotte in October and then you can say "I know that guy."

Hi hogedog. I use to live in Charlotte several years ago but since have relocated to SE Wisconsin. My first ever detector at age 33 is the X70 that I purchased 6-7 months ago. I am delighted with it's ease of use and performance. If t wasn't for this forum I would have purchased something els for sure. You will be pleased with the X70 and all it's functions/ease of use/performance to name a few. Many people report these same things about this machine and from my own experience they are correct. I am familiar with SE Wisconsin. I was a FF/Paramedic in Fox Lake IL. many years ago. Good beer, cheese and sausage there! Thanks for the vote of confidence. I am glad I looked into the other detectors and compared. 1 more day and I can order it. The weather here, as you know, is pretty good year round. Don't have to worry about the snow like you do, or the -0 temps. I don't miss that, just the good food. Thanks, have fun, get rich and don't freeze up there!!!!!!!!!!!

Excellent to hear you bought it. Like was posted above this may be the longest 2-3 (oops weekend is here) 3-5 days of your life LOL. Post about your experience with it once you get it ;) . Good luck to you hogedog
 
Well All, got the new detector today but, of course it's raining out. Have the races to work the next three day and then on duty (damn it). When I do get to try it, I'll tell all how it went. Till then just reading and playing with the new machine. Thanks to all that responded in reference to questions and guidance that I had.
