I'm getting the ground ready. Tilled up a small section of my yard yesterday but need to add some topsoil, compost, etc. Plan on putting out maters, cucumbers, green onions, okra and maybe a few rows of sweet corn.

Our neighbor plants a garden every year...uses grass clippings and burned leaves for compost. We have an open lot between his and our house that another neighbor owns but decided not to put a mobile home on and let's the other guy plant stuff there. Every year we get free tomatoes, green and some red peppers, cabbage, etc.

Right now all we see out the window is white stuff. Supposed to warm up to 39 degrees so some will melt off today.

The time to plant tomatoes was 1 month ago and protect them every night. A very short growing season as once it gets above 90 degrees the fruit wont set. They do grow them inside and in hydroponics but they are never good - taste like cardboard :)

I need to build a mulch bin for all the leaves we have each year. Growing up, dad had one and any leftover nightcrawlers from fishing trips went into the mulch pile to be retrieved for later use.

Do you guys still have snow on the ground? Today we'll be in the 70's but with high winds and rain with possible severe storms this afternoon.
 
Soon...very soon....we will attempt to grow some nice tomatoes; I don't think Hank and I know how to plant and maintain a garden anywhere near as good as you forum members do ..seems like you got this down to an art..but we will make a valient attempt as we do each year.

but I am noticing more and more areas of grass are showing up where it gets the most sun. Haven't checked the ball field Warthog and I have detected but it get sun most of the day as well.

I love thunderstorms up here....we get rolling thunder - awesome to hear as it rumbles across the sky. The way we have our living room laid out we can watch the 'light show' in the sky too.

Weather man is predicting it to not be much over freezing for the next 6 days but I'm still holding out that God will prove them wrong...yet again :) :thumbup: my faith is in God - not weathermen.
 
have a new garden friend that will keep out the bugs,birds ---kinda cute, huh?planted a new salad tomatoe called a "grape tomato" because it grows in clusters.see how good it grows :confused:
 
Ma doesn't like snakes.....even fake ones; therefore, no snakes in my garden and yard, if I can help it! :rofl: May those maters grow and taste really good, which I'm sure they will as home-grown are the best! Yummmmmmmmmm!!!
