Interesting Find This Morning...

Sorry ... No pictures. Hunting this morning produced an interesting find with odd circumstances. I've been hunting for many years and continue to learn something new I didn't know before, even though I know my Minelab X-terra 505 well. I did find a dollar in change but the interesting find was a sterling silver heavy duty men's neck chain. The odd thing was that it didn't come in, on the detector, in the #30 range but came in @ #24! Yet there are markings on the chain of .925. Have any of you experienced similar situations?

Most, if not all, of the SS rings I've found have come in @ #30 on the X-terra 505. I can't tell you how many times I've passed up signals @ #24 thinking they were junk targets. They very well may have been but I've learned an important lesson today and that is: 'When in doubt ... dig'!

I hve found indian pennies that read 24 with my xterra 70. I always dig low twenties. Not many times have they been good targets but a few times they have.

hhmm...I just got a sovereign a while back and just haven`t got to hunt as much as I would like...so far the only old stuff has been a couple of wheaties and one silver quarter...but reading on here has really made me think alot about digging more than I normally would...especially till I get to know my machine

Absolutely Tometusns! In the beginning, you should be digging every signal. With my old X-terra 70, I have dug Indian Head Pennies, in older parks (and I think that's the key) @ #33, which is the same signal for twist-off beer bottle caps. In new parks, the twist-off caps continue to come in @ #33 but Indian Head Pennies come in @ #36 (when I find them in newer parks-which is rare)! Go figure? It has something to do with the soil is my guess. My X-terra 505 reacts in much the same way, as far as numbers are concerned. Junk targets come in @ a variety of numbers but many of them come in at #24 or #27 (that's for the Minelab X-terra's). The other machines I've owned in the past - namely Garrett and White - react in a totally different way and number system. The key, as many experienced hunters will attest to, is to get to know your machine and the best way to do that is to dig everything; especially in the beginning!
