Interesting numbers

Searching a new park in a new town yesterday I got a good solid 12-42 reading at 2 inches. I did a plug and when I broke the plug a nickel fell out, that was a surprise those are not nickel numbers. Upon further inspection there was a penny directly above it. The penny was laying on top of the nickel and the E-Trac did not see the nickel. Also found a sterling silver ring with a garnet setting that read 12-38. Other good finds were a 1927D wheat at 12-43 and 1910 Barber nickel that was jumping 9 to 15-10 to 17. A good day for me. Sorry no pics camera is shot.

What year is it? possible War nickle?

Thats what I was thinking, Wartime Silver Jefferson Nickels 1942-1945.

No it is a standard 1984 nickel. It was under the penny a pocket spill and even though they were touching (the nickel had a bright silver spot where the penny kept it from turning black) the penny completely masked the nickel.

Sorry about your camera and congrats on your finds

But, there is no Barber Nickels, perhaps a Liberty nickel?
