Into the woods we went!:fisher:

A couple buddies and I have been playing around the edges of some old woods the past few days. The first outing I was able to score a 1902 Barber half with another detector and one of my buddies got a nice Barber dime. Yesterday, although the foliage is still to thick, we pushed back into the woods and my buddy Chris promptly hit a 1877 Seated quarter and a nice Eagle button and some lead, with his F 75 SE. That was enough to spur us on, so this morning Chris and I worked an area close by and it turned out to be my turn for silver. My first good dig was a mini coin spill. A 42 Washington quarter and 2 wheat cents. The quarter was down under and along side two roots and I gave it a nice kiss with my Predator hand trowel. My second silver was a 41s Washington quarter. My 3rd was a ladies sterling ring and a few minutes later got my 3rd wheat cent. And no, I couldn't find the stone. The 3 wheats were all 40's. Not many targets for either of us this morning, but it was fun and we are now looking forward to some better hunting conditions. My F 75 LTD is fine tuned and ready for some serious woods hunting. Jim. You swinging a large coil or sniper?

When I do feel adventurous and go deep woods. I bring both with me just in case, but find myself getting frustrated swinging the dd in the brush and debris.

Just curious, cuz I know the sniper hits farther down than it's radius on the f70/75's if a target is solid, not junk.

Haven't hit a thing worth while yet though in the woods reguardless of foundations or signs of use.

I use the 11" DD the majority of the time. After I have worked the more readily accessible spots with it, I'll frequently go back and use the smaller 6 1/2" concentric and get under and into spots that I can't with the bigger coil. I have found that depth is not paramount for most woods hunting. Probably do to the root systems of the foliage keeping targets from sinking, the majority of targets are fairly shallow.

Much of the public woods in my neck of the woods has seen activity from Civil War time to present. And while targets are often few and far between, often they are of older varieties. Good luck. HH jim tn

Excellent hunting again! What a year you have going! Started in early Jan with those halfs I remember, and you have steadily accelerated right through the summer...Amazing!
