Iron Masking

I got this from the DFX forum which got it from the Tesoro forum. Anyway it is great reading about why ferrous (trash) has a big effect on finding coins and other goodies. Copy this link and go to it. I apologize that I wasn't able to set up a direct link that you can go to it due to my limited computer skills.

My fault on thinking the above mentioned link about iron masking did not work. It works just fine. Jim

I completely agree with what this link tells about interaction between ferrous targets and goodies.

But for years, a particular type of metal detectors, alas obsolete nowadays, has been capable of finding every goodie in range, no matter what iron in the neighborhood : the TR detectors (and some older VLF/TR).

I never sold my C Scope Minidisc (CS 550), for instance. It grabs thin gold other detectors, inclusive mine, leave in the sand. (chains, bracelets, thin rings, white gold, earrings...). Works at 100 Khz and doe absolutely NOT suffer from masking.

Gives no signal on iron and signal on all the rest, including iron alloys (excellent for relic hunting).

It is always wise to own more than one metal detector, as long as they have different capacities.

C Scope and Viking still produce inexpensive TR metal detectors that would be great addition to beach and relic hunting equipment.
