Iron Ore?

I got a GTA 350 last month an I started thinking it wasn't working right.
I would get what I thought was a good signal but when I would dig there would be nothing there. This was happening all over my yard. Got to the point were I gave up trying to use it.

Today using an AT Max with a 4.5" Sniper and an AT Pro-Pointer, I'm thinking it's my yard.

First I had a little trouble finding a spot in my yard to ground balance my Max, seem like it would beep everywhere.

Using a Pinpointer I would try and search my hole but it would beep on the side of the hole like I just missed it with my hole.
I tried holding my Pinpointer to the side of the hole when I turned it on, seen that in this video  ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JOHMxjAT1TI )
But it would still beep on the sides of the hole.

So I got a telescopic magnet and stuck that down in my hole and these little rocks stuck to it
Googled Iron Ore and I think that's what my yard is full of.

So my first finds were a pull tab, some kind of handle (seen in the picture on the left) that gives a nice 80 signal in and out of the hole, and a couple rocks :lmfao:

Any chance a lot of coal cinders were thrown out into your yard at one point in time? HH jim tn

Yes, I have one of the oldest houses in my town and I'm sure it had coil heat.
When I bought the house I was told about how the house used to have an alley way behind the house that was used by the coal trucks to deliver coal to the houses.
And digging around my yard over the years I have found coal.

Frustrating

I get what I think is a good signal, I dig and nothing there. I scan over the hole and nothing. I scan over the pile of dirt I just dug out of the hole and it beeps.
I sift through dirt and find nothing. Put the dirt back in hole and scan over it and it beeps again

When I start my Max I hold it off the ground.
It's hardly making a sound but I try to ground balance it anyways and I tried different frequencies.
If the signal is, say 75, it don't change when I adjust the sensitivity up and down.

My plan was to learn in my yard but I don't think that's going to happen. I think I am going to have to find another place to see if I am having these same problems.

I have a hard time finding a 12" spot that Max is not saying there's metal there to ground balance

So today my friend brought a Teknetics Alpha and it too beeped pretty much all over my yard.
So to recap that's a AT Max, GTA 350, AT Pro-Pointer and a Teknetics Alpha that sees my yard as a big pile of metal

I finally found a place around my house where the ground wasn't full of that iron ore to test my Max and it worked great
All I found was trash but it felt good to know there's nothing wrong with my Max. :)
