Iron relic finds

Bill Ladd

New member
As I mentioned, many times cleaning out an early site of all it's iron trash can be good in 2 ways. The iron masks those thin, little flat buttons & coins. Plus, there are some fine iron relics that everyone else passed over....(yea, OK me too) ;) Here's a shot of the "better" iron relics. A couple hand-forged Colonial hooks, a wedge, a big door latch, iron buckles, & a pretty cool padlock (mid-1800's?) with it's key in the same hole. I'll preserve them all with electrolosis soon.......HH, Bill

Who knows what's hiding under all that iron we pass over? I like the lock. I have found a couple locks real similar to that one. But you got the key ta' boot! Too cool!

Yep.....& this is only the "good stuff" I decided to keep. There was horseshoes, ox shoes, spikes, chain, etc. It may look ugly & rusty in the picture right now to some folks. But once preserved it becomes smooth & black....just like you'd see in a museum. I'll be sure to post an "after" picture when I "git er Done"
