is a fisher 1212x considered vintage?

That would be circa mid 1980s. Thus I would not consider that old enough to be "vintage".

Maybe we need a 'Classic' forum then? If 'Vintage' was slated towards the pre-1970s metal detectors...this forum would dry up on the input.

In most peoples minds vintage means old. Most consider detectors from the 70's old and vintage. So to give detectors from the 70-80's a pleasant sounding term, we call them Classics. But they fall under the umbrella forum Vintage Detecting Forum. Just a simple forum name change would help. Vintage and Classic Detectors. That should make everyone happy.

All the Classic detector catalogs can be found on my website, I can't post a link (not a forum sponsor) just google TreasureLinx

The Fisher 1212 first came out in the early 1990s. Very capable low end unit. I found an 1866 shield nickel(with rays) at 6" deep with one. For a low end unit...had the performance of rival brands intermediary offerings.
