Is an XT 17000 a good machine?

Don't usually post on this forum but just ran across an older retired couple that have a couple Minelab XT 17000's. They purchased them in '95 and haven't used them so...they have been "closet decoration" for all these years. They asked me what I thought of them and honestly told them I didn't know but that Minelab is only quality stuff and I wouldn't hesitate to, as a brand,to purchase myself. Well they are wondering what there current value is and I am wondering if they have any general hunting usage?

I have been running White's stuff so just have no experience with Minelab. I have been enjoying this forum and respect several of people here on good, consistent opinions.
What's the skinny on these machines? Thanks!

and the Eureka Ace equals or surpasses it in terms of performance . . . . . '95 was about the end of the run for them so they are at least 14 years old . . . . . technology has improved a good deal over that time and detectors such as the Whites MXT and Tesoro Lobo ST would be a better detector with a warranty using current technology.

There was one for sale in mint condition for $299a month or two back from a dealer so as far as what they are worth, not much more than that . . . . . . good machines for the time . . . . . . gets expensive to have them repaired if something is wrong from sitting in the closet all these years.

Reg Sniff did a field test on it for Lost Treasure back in 1993 . . . . . here's the report
