Is anyone using the Coiltec 5x10 Joey coil on the EXP II or SE? If so how do.....

you like it? Do you use it as your primary coil vs. your stock coil? I have been using an EXP II since 10-8-03 and I will be getting my new Se and Joey coil any day now and will be using both primarily for CW relics. Thanks for your replies in advance!! HH!!

As for the Joey coil, I haven't used it but others here have. I'm sure someone will chime in here soon and help you out.
Congrats on the new purchase, I know you'll love it.

You seem to be doin' good without the Joey coil. Why change?

Well, I have the 5", 4.5 x 7", 8" Minelab & 8" EXcelerator, the Joey 6 x 10 & the 10.5 stock coil. I mainly hunt 2 parks that are very old & have CW history, but they are also public parks & have been so for many years, which means that on top of all the good stuff are layers of modern day trash. These parks have been pounded for years by other detectorists yet I can still find good stuff occasionally by using the various different coils to get thru the trash. I also dig a lot of trash, but I think that you have to dig the trash in order to get to the treasure.

The Joey coil gave me another tool to add to my arsonel of coils & it worked quite well. It does help to get between the trash & root out good targets, as do all the other coils, but, nothing can beat the depth of the 10.5 coil. If I were hunting in an open field with not much trash, I wouln't use anything but the 10.5. But, I have to cherry pick the areas I hunt in & all the other coils are great for that. After cherry picking for awhile I will go back to the 10.5 & find more deep targets. Ive been doing this for 5 years now & I still find good stuff. It works for me.

Joey coil while I was purchasing my SE. I got a good deal on it and figured it would come in handy in some of the rough terrain I hunt in. I'm always pushing the stock coil into tight spots between rocks, trees, shrubs, underbrush etc..... I figure the narrow coil will get me into tighter spots resulting in some targets that the stock coil can't reach and still be able to cover a wide sweep instead of using an 8'' OR 5" COIL.
Thanks again and HH!!

I'll love the Se as I'm already familliar with the EXP II that I used since 10-08-03. Thanks again and HH!!

The Joey is a great coil! I used one for a year and traded it even for an X-8. I wish I kept it. It separates great! My first good find with it was a Franklin half that was in a coin hot spot in an area of a park that I hammered to death before with the stock coil and thought it was all cleaned up. I'm pretty sure they are not submersible, just water resistant.
Looks like the relics are really getting under your coil!

It works great in Trashy Areas and also in Wooded Areas as well. The Joey is a Closed Coil so there will be less Drag and less problems with Brush grabbing the open faced Coils like the Stock or 8" Coils are. This Coil is very easy to swing and it will most likely become one of your favorites to use. It may lack in Depth (maybe 2" or so) but this Coil can really hit Good Targets next to Trash that the Stock Coil tends to miss. One Key thing is to go Slow with this Coil in Trashy Areas. If you go Slow enough, you will really start hitting a lot of Good Targets that you would have never know were there, especially in amongst Iron. The Joey Coil is the 2nd Coil I use other than the Stock Coil. I also have the Sunray X-12 but haven't really put much of use on it yet. I plan on trying that Coil this year more to see if I can't squeak out a few more Good Targets at some of my pounded Hot Spots. Hope the Joey Coil works just as good for you as it does for me. Good Luck and HH!:detecting:
