Is Compass still in business?

Hi Everyone, I am wondering if Compass is still doing business. Their website no longer comes up. Is Steve and Sue ok? I hope everything is ok for them. I just picked up a Gold Scanner Pro and may need some stuff for it. Thanks to anyone that can shed some light on the condition of the Compass brand. God Bless all.

I live about 3 blocks from where the Compass plant was located. Not in business now. Last time I talked to Steve he had possession of lots of Compass parts. That was about 4 years ago.

I am not a Detector enthusiast but many members in my Family are and Compass throughout the years has brought many many hours of enjoyment to those family members , It saddens me to find out they have nearly vanished from the detector scene and I have spend days and days scanning the web trying to find a dealer then came to realize they where no longer making detectors and now I find this place giving me some glimmer of hope

I don't know much about detectors but know my dad once owned a relic magnum back in the day and loved it for its time frame , I also went to the factory and picked up a detector with my Uncle who then lived in Salem Oregon ( long time ago back around 1982 or so ) My Dad is 74 years old but still pretty active for a guy who had quadruple bypass a year ago , I am currently unemployed and don't have a heck of a lot of money for Christmas and have 4 kids to buy for but would REALLY like to get him something he would enjoy ( who knows how many more years he has with us)

any chance to get a great deal on something like the xp 350 or similar Compass?

Would love to get him a Compass other than an Ebay model of some other well known brand that we will not mention here , for our Family Compass has always been the one to beat back in the day anyways ...

Hopefully we will soon see Compass rise to the forefront of the industry with some groundbreaking new line of detector ,I think Its great when small companies are able to achieve what Compass once did with the giants of the Industry and put a product out that rivals them in such a manner and has what I considered as high or higher quality ...

well enough of this rambling and best wishes to the Members of the Compass team !!

I have called and left several messages nobody has called back ....

spoke with a guy who claims to be the last Compass dealer in North America ans he told me he is still waiting on 6 detectors for over a year now ...

real hesitant to make any deals even if my calls are returned now , regardless of price , quality etc

not trying to make trouble but seems to me a company that wants to get back on its feet legitimately would take care of outstanding orders and make prompt call backs to potential buyers asap in order to regain company loyalty and future sales ...perhaps they still have some issues to take care of ?

why this is not happening is anyones guess , the man ( the last dealer compass has /had) did tell me was the owners wife had a battle with cancer and some other issues and thats why he shut the plant down the last time ( not sure if that is so or not ) just be careful to those interested in a future compass detector ...

I hope they get it together they had some quality stuff back in the day
 
Maybe the reason you didn't get anyone on the phone is because this person makes a living some other way, I am sure that is the case at the least. I don't know about any of the other stuff discussed, it's hard for the small companies to stay in business nowadays but like you I would make sure I at least got a hold to someone on the phone before preceding any further. I did go to Compass's supposed website site, it looked like a generic search page to me.
 
John I have an e-mail address for Steve Goss's wife Sue, Steve & Sue are the owner of Compass. I do not know if the address and phone number is still good. All I can say is be careful and do business with Steve Goss at your own risk, (be very careful) that is all I can say without going into a long spill of details. I think Compass is just about out of business anyway... if there not out of business already, below is the last contact info that I had for Compass.

I do believe that Compass bit the dust in the last few years or so.

I called according to there answering machine DURING business hours , left multiple messages and nothing ...

i am sorry to hear of that!..i liked compass!..had one back in the late seventies,and it was a quality built unit!..had a nice lime green paint scheme,and lookrd sharp!
found a lot of coin with it even though it was a high-frequency (tr) design!..they have been out of the loop for so long,it would be hard to come back,unless they have some "new" circuit design!

If they could redesign to get them lighter, I think they could make a go of it. There are too many components in their old designs, stuff that can go wrong. I wish I could find a good condition Goldscannner.
 
mine was "dead nuts" reliable all the time i had it.i used mine for two tears ,then sold it!..i had a "judge #1"..it WAS equal to anything whitey was producing at the time,but yes!..you are correct!..their designs were a little dated while they were still in business in the early nineties!

I 've had a Compass "Judge2" since May of 1987 and it still works as good today, as it did the day I got it. However,
there's just one little problem. It comes with 3 small battery containers that hold 4-AA,1.5v batteries. one of the connections
on top of one of the small plastic containers has busted off. This is where the battery wire from the unit connects to the container.
Does anyone know know where I can find one of the battery containers, since the Compass company went out of business?
 
it's a great shame compass went out of business. the 77b was one of the best detectors ever made. the later motion detectors were not bad machines either. problem is every manufacturer is trying to make copy's of silver sabres or going over the top with meter id these days, there's still a good market for specialist machines like the 77b. arado made a very good version in the tr180. you don't use them every day, but when the iron content or the ground is to bad for a motion detector they come into there own
 
hello all, I started out with a used compass detector.The first day I used it I found 11 Gold Rings and many coins at a small beach in Ohio. I have owned other detectors but my old Compass Was as good as any of them and easier to use than most. Ridgerunner.
