i know this is like beating a dead horse but is tesoro coming out with anything new? i am a long time tesoro user but im sick of waitiing. the new garrett AT looks nice. thanks cladking

All the forums are a buzz about that new AT Pro, if it's as good as the advertising makes it out to be....no Tigersharks on the horizon....
the Garrett might be a hit machine. I'll let every one else buy one first........the Lemmings are getting ready for their next run. :clapping:
Might be a good time to pick up a bargin on used second machine when the Lemmings need cash to pay for that new AT.

I'm not even gonna worry about it. I want a Compadre with I/D and I know that'll never happen-and that no one would even want such a machine.:surrender:

Lightweight, waterproof, dual frequency, manual ground balance, 2 tone ID machine ( tone set on the break point on the discrimination level similar to the Gold Bug SE I have ) with the ability to switch to all metal and I am first in line.

Knob 1 - On/Off, battery check, volume
Knob 2 - Ground balance
Knob 3 - All metal/discrimination
Knob 4 - Sensitivity/threshold...similar to the CZ line where it's silent search in discrim mode, threshold in all metal.

I'm concerned that maybe Tesoro has just decided to ride the horses they've got to the finish line.

This is Tesoro's 30th anniversary and it's been over six years since they've come out with a new detector. If not a new detector to market along with their 30th, then when?

Now that Garrett is updating their line, Tesoro is the only one not to do so in such a long time. And Garrett wasn't standing still the last few years, coming out with the Propointer as well as detectors for the military and law enforcement.

Making detectors isn't the expensive part, it's the R&D and marketing that costs the most. And Tesoro is the smallest of the major manufacturers, so the cost of R&D may be a major problem for them.

I read an article a while back where one of the Giffords talked about how their MDI magazine was their major marketing tool. But then why would you be out of stock for almost two years?

I think Tesoro is a great company with great customer service. The Giffords are A-1 people. And they make detectors that are easy to use and work well.

You can also make a case that improvements since the advent of the VLF detector have been incremental so a good detector often takes quite a while to become dated. But as the Tesoro line ages, and other manufacturers make detectors that are more advanced, sales will inevitably go down.

Tesoro's lifetime warranty is the best of any manufacturer, but it won't be worth anything if the company folds.

I wonder if they ever read this forum and are aware what is going on at First Texas, XP, now Garrett and others.

All the above is true.
Painful and true.
All can be summed up with two words: Jack Retired.
I started with a Tesoro in 97.
My first three detectors were all Tesoro's.
Still have all three.
But now, they're back-up's and loaners.
Advances in the competition will eventually doom Tesoro.
James and Vince may keep the company going long enough to retire.
Their inability to resolve the issue with their water machines is embarrassing.
I've moved on.
Couldn't wait forever.

Yes, that is painful, sharpshooter.

What's really sad is that you, like me, started with a Tesoro and would love to use a Tesoro as your main detector. Instead, you went :minelab: down under and I headed for :fisher: Texas.

Hopefully, the future will show that our speculation is not the true story.

Weird I went from the fancy/expensive detectors to the tesoro line. Easy to use fun to swing and deep. I do not see the disadvantage of the tesoro line.

I don't think anyone makes a better beep-and-dig machine then Tesoro. They are light, deep and well built. But are they competitive in the marketplace? The trend seems to be for TID machines and, in my opinion, Tesoro's TID models are weaker then the competitions. I had a Cortes, and enjoyed using it, but it was limited in features compared to some others I had and have now. Like I said in another post (and took a lot of heat for it), the Cortes at $600+ (list at $849) is way overpriced for what you get, especially with models like the F5 and the new Garrett AT right around the corner.

Some might say, so what, but what good is your lifetime warranty going to do for you if Tesoro disappears because they didn't stay competitive in the marketplace? I think every Tesoro owner (that includes me) has a vested interest in what happens with Tesoro.

I imagine that the majority of water machines are used for wading mostly so this new Garrett will fill a void alot of people have been asking for, that includes Excal users, CZ21 users and so on. Waterproof down to 10ft and it has ID, thats what people have been asking for and now they have it. and the price is really decent also.
I would love to see Tesoro come out with something new and at the very least, say they are working on something. other than repair work, you never hear a word out of them.

me either!. it's a.concept that has worked for a long time, and it is dependent
on you trusting what the detector is telling you!..if you "learn" a tesoro, you will do as well,or better than
anyone else with the latest equipment!..the giffords KNOW this, and the simple fact that they are still here
is proof of that fact!

I agree. I went from starting out with a SovereignGT and a Tejon.. then a T2... then I wentto some more advanced machines that were frustrating. The most frustrating, for me, have been the Exp SE and the V3... but still... when I go some place where it is iron infested and I have trouble, my Tejon will always make finds. Set on foil it will ignore nails but it will find good iron relics and no brass button or minnieball will escape... It wont miss coins either. I have a tendency to over complicate things... hench more, bigger, better detectors... but more feature doesn't mean more finds, sometimes it means less finds, better isn't always better.

The only thing that is important at this point in the evolution of VLF detectors is better seperation or better ways to get a good signal on a heavily masked target or a target in horrible ground. More depth is only going to be had by finding better ways to deal with iron, non-ferrous trash, and minerals. I think FTP is on the right track with their Omega and GBSE/G2 platforms that share coils... one running at 7.7khz and the other running at 19khz.
IMO, if Tesoro were to build a machine with HD audio, switchable between similar frequencies with the push switch (like the dual disc switch on the Tejon) with raw TID audio on each... possible a VDI screen with only corresponding numbers and the GB number but not really a must... KISS!!! and waterproof... they would have a huge hit of a detector... but KEEP IT SIMPLE. I actually think audio only on a machine like this could be better than having a VDI. One: no having to look at a screen and two: the user would learn the audio and would actually be better at knowing what is under the coil than they could ever be by relying on a VDI meter... assuming the audio is HD and as good as they can make it, as much nuance as they can add to the audio.
There are folks who can use audio only machines and just run circles around most others... Tejon and Sovereign users.

User assignable tones for each number in the phase scale might be a plus and a way for the user to set the breakpoint in a two tone audio would be good but don't lose that Tesoro way of trash breaking up after a few sweeps of the coil.. that always amazes me. Every time I use my Tejon I make some sort of find and I don't really know why or how... not sure what made me dig it but it just makes good finds.

Waterproof.

It is time for me to simplify... I am tired of struggling to learn to use detectors.
