Is the E-Trac 50% better than the Safari?

I'm planning to get another detector that can handle black wet sand at the beach, and have been looking at the E-Trac and the Safari. The many settings on the E-Trac seem a bit intimidating, especially compared to the simple interface of the new Safari. Looking at the E-Trac vs. Safari, they use the same coil, the same FSB 1.5 - 100 khz, and the same battery system (but I was disappointed to see that the Safari does not have back lighting like the E-Trac). Guess my question really is when it comes down to the finds, will the E-Trac get a lot more than the Safari? One other thing... there a large number of new E-Trac users posting on the forums, but no Safari users? Are people not buying the Safari, and if not, why?

Thanks - any input is appreciated.

At the Beach they both will do well .Is the E-trac 50% Better ...No. At parks ,cellar-holes ,etc. If the ground has allot of iron and junk, the E-trac will do better since it has a faster processor. But the Safari will do just as well as the EX 2. With out all the bells and whistles .

Answer to this Question is ,most people think the Safari is just like the Quattro and it's not. The Quattro was much slower then the Safari....so most people are afraid to buy it. The Quattro worked well on the beach...but very slow on land.
The Question I have for you is, Why don't you look into a water detector? CZ's, White's etc.

Although we make a trip to the beach each summer, most of my detecting is inland at parks and sports fields, so I would really like a detector with a target ID. Last summer I took my Fisher F-75 to the Southern California beaches where it worked great in the dry sand and I found 4 silver rings, a bunch of clad and some silver bracelets and earrings. The black wet sand was a different story, and I had to keep to the dry stuff. This summer I want to be able to be able to work the wet sand in search of gold.

Do you have to swing the Safari much slower than the E-Trac?

Bart , A swing of 3 to 4 seconds is fine. The ET most people that I've talked to swing it about 2 to 3 Seconds . In high trash slow them both down . I still think you would do better if you picked up a used beach detector for a good price ( $300to 400) ,then you can do the water which produces more finds, And you don't have to worry the salt water ruining your detector .
Have a happy Thanksgiving
