Is the FE3O4 reading accurate on a saltwater beach?

It wasn't registering good on the salt sand.

The GB Phase reading was only in the 20's.

I would guess that it depends on the level of black sands present. Remember that the ground-phase reading on the T-2 is backwards from what the true phase scale is, reading salts at near zero and ferrite at near 95. If you have a mix of conductive salt and magnetic mineralization, then it is going to read somewhere in between the extremes. 20 indicates that the conductive salt is stronger than the magnetics, but that you have a mix of both in that location. I think also that the Fe340 feature was designed more for inland use rather than saltwater sands where the black sands are usually very inconsistent and usually seen in strips or layers rather than being homogenous to the total maxtix.

If you want to. Just not sure what affect the wet salts have on the Fe340 reading. No beaches up here in N.W. Arkansas to try it on. ;) But it sure would be easier to pan or sift sand than digging hardpan !

Because of the low phase reading, user must manual GB on salt beach's.

There was no black sand present, and it depends on what the black sand make up is. Black sand can be made up on the salt beach's from numerous materials. Oil spills, organic, and mineralization, it doesn't always affect the detector.

In these conditions, the Fe reading didn't respond.
